I think it would work better as a currency system. You'd get mob-specific currency (not 100% drop of course) from each mob you kill, then you could go to an NPC and turn these in for tokens, you can the exchange these tokens at a different NPC in a different town for the drops you wanted.

Bonus Mode: Every mob has a 10% chance to drop a HQ-Currency piece anytime they would normally drop a currency piece (capped weekly) which can be turned in HQ Tokens which can then be turned HQ-Tokens which can be turned in for HQ versions of the item you'd like.
