I'm pretty tired of the whole "just get a static, and you'll be set!" Well guess what, there are plenty of players who are both skilled at the game and have plenty of time to play, but can't get into a static due to crazy work schedules. 99% of all PF's and shouts I see for people recruiting for statics say something like "we raid on tuesday wednesday..." well great you've already lost me, unless you're fine with me not coming half the time. I know from experience too, that while you can make a 5 man static work that schedules on the fly, it's practically impossible to find 8 people who mostly have changing schedules, and then find times where everyone can be on.
Additionally, why the heck is all real endgame in FFXIV tuned for set in stone 8 man statics anyway? You can pug it in PF but good luck finding a group if you fall behind. In my event LS in FFXI we had raid nights, I was able to make most of them, but most nights involved multiple runs of some event, and we were able to sub people in and out for each run. Why can't this be the case in FFXIV? Why is it have 8 man or go bust? It's particularly damning considering 8 man static LS's have effectively either taken the place of your FC for the group of people that you progress with, or you do progress with your FC but only with those who fit in the initial 8 static.
This isn't anything new to FFXIV though. Remember when the Syrcus Tower was dropping Sand and Oil and other miscellaneous bath-time items?
At the end of the day its really just a trade of one form of RNG to another.

Roll higher and stfu basically. This loot system was exactly what players asked for.
door ---> this way.
What's stopping you from doing this for Alex-Normal?
This loot system is a lot better plus is item lock on the turn not as whole so you can get as many pieces for each turn per week. If you lost the token you can go again until you get it. With this you can get all you want sooner or later instead wasting all weeks without seeing 1 piece you want for months.
In my case I just did turn 1 and got a token for belt but lost the one for accessory. Now i cant roll on tokens in turn 1 until next week but can reenter to help whoever needs. Better than being lockout unable to help friends and fc.

So make a static like this? I know of a few groups that are actually 3-6 people and they pug the rest weekly. Do whatever works for you to get through the content. If you can't be in a "normal" static because of your RL schedule, that's completely understandable. You'll either need to pug or find some way to work around your limitations, and the onus is on you to do so. You're going to find that the majority of raiders prefer the stability of a complete 8 man static, but there are those willing to have a looser arrangement. Try making or joining a linkshell for endgame content, maybe? I know when my static is looking for subs, the first places we go are linkshells, friend lists, and FC's. Party Finder is for when we've exhausted our other options and we're willing to roll the dice. :3I'm pretty tired of the whole "just get a static, and you'll be set!" It would have been better for the mobs to drop classless item molds that you turn in for the piece you wanted.
As it is now, unless you sit there with a sticky note on your desk listing which, and how many, of these ambiguously named tokens you need for each slot, people are bound to roll for stuff they didn't actually need/want, and screw them self and someone else out of loot over it.
You can only get one per turn per week. If you are farming with someones and they have their drop then you are only rolling against those who do not.
It's meant to be fairly easy. This is the story mode version for those who are not really raiders. Similar to how CT is designed for those players. From what I've read, Alex is somewhat harder than WoD but easier than the Ex Primals. That's right where it should be for the easy mode. Savage is coming in 2 weeks. This is the Coil level version that should be a lot harder to do.
