Thing is though that's just the nature of MMOs. Even WoW did it. Older content eventually gets nerfed to help newer players catch up to everyone else. What good is keeping the original difficulty of dungeons related to the story when the older players refuse to do the content with them? That was the problem with Steps: not even the vets cared for the challenge. If they got it in their duty roulette they would immediately leave the instance and incur a time penalty because they did not want to deal with it. Even those who liked the challenge refused to do it a second time. So then you have an entire group of players that can't play a whole expansion because half the player base refused to do it with them. Hence the nerf.

Raids themselves I do agree, they should be hard. And shouldn't be nerfed until their place in the game has been upstaged by the next raid. However, you wanting the game to cater to you and refuse nerfs even after you've done content is no different than the people who want easier access to raids. Your reasons for demanding change are the only things that are different. You and the people who cleared the content with you know what you did. I do think there should be very distinct loot of some kind that those who clear at regular difficulties should get that others don't, but beyond that, why refuse to let others have entry?

You do belong in this game, that is for certain. But so does everyone else that pays their subs too. Even if previous raids didn't get nerfed, you wouldn't be doing them anyway because you're waiting for the next new thing.

Please, OP, don't claim to speak for the majority of Legacy players. I am Legacy. I'm also an ex-FFXI player. Loved that game, love this one too. I am a member of a medium-sized Free Company and most of us have known each other for a few years, are also Legacy and FFXI players. Some have cleared Final Coil, some haven't. Not one single person who has cleared it, has any problem WHATSOEVER with others clearing it later at a time when it's been made easier by some means. Why would they? Their accomplishment is in clearing it pre-nerf. They know they did that, and they don't need or want the validation that the 'no nerfs evah' argument seems to ask for.

You ask why you should be bothered to learn content that's going to be made easier down the line? Because you want to rise to the challenge! But that's not really what you're looking for, is it? You're looking for that validation I mentioned earlier, the one where the game's scrubs look at you in your cool, impossible to get, raid gear and go 'wow, he must be awesome'. Yoshi P thinks that if you're a hard-core raider, the challenge of beating content before it gets nerfed should be what matters. By the time I get geared for Alex normal, you'll already be geared up and doing Hard Mode. That's fine with me. You're always going to be in the frontline, aiming for server firsts.

Oh wait! No you're not. Because you seem to think that a nerf somewhere down the line negates what you achieved. So you just won't bother. And I really really don't get that argument ...

That was FFXIV 1.0 and it didn't go very far, only a small portion of the player base were willing to pay for it.
There were some good stuff from 1.0 but it just did not attract as much people as the casual friendly ARR did. You said the game is too easy yet alot of people did not even attempt coil. If you cater only to the hardcore - then you have Wildstar - gone free to play in no time. By the so call "nerf" or echo, it allows the larger population to experience the content (which are typically out of date anyways)

Quit the game bro. No one is putting a gun to your head telling you to keep playing. If you don't enjoy the game just quit.

Uh, the games been out 2 years, 5 counting 1.0. 2004-2006 FFXI had the following:

    Rise of the Zilart
    Chains of Promathia
    Treasures of Aht Urgahn.

3, yes, 3! expansions. Endgame looked like this:
    Monday - Dynamis
    Tuesday - Einerjar/Limbus
    Weds. - Sky
    Thursday - Nyzul Isle

All 5 of these events utilized vastly different gameplay ideas to obtain endgame quality gear. It wasn't just grinding tomes in dungeons that are faceroll, it was just farming 24 man content that wasn't faceroll, and it wasn't just one hardcore static-required raid. The gear dropped was relevant across the board, just for different reasons(one tank piece lowering damage taken, one increasing rampart's duration, etc.)

The point is variety, something this game lacks, right out of the expansion's gate. We've been farming Philos....I mean, Mytholo.....Sol.....Poe......Law! That's it! Tomestones for years now, in the same manner we did when ARR launched. We've had one 8 person raid since launch, Coil and now Alexander, not both, as Alex replaces Coil. We've had one 24 person raid since launch, CT and whatever is going to replace it.

The new quests? Same fetch quests as before.
New FATE's? Same as the old FATE's.
New jobs? ....didn't BRD get altered to match MCH? The mobility thing? Yeah.
    New areas? Fantastic! No complaints!
Flying mounts? Yay! And I hate flying things in games!

I love the expansion, I'm having a literal ball over here. That doesn't mean I'm going to be happy with doing the same thing we've ben doing for 2 years just with a different coat of paint, a new name, and higher item levels. If 4.0 comes around(and I think it will) and it's the same shit once again, this game will bleed subs. There's no way it couldn't.

    Nobody wants that.

FFXI has more than three expansion by the way. And every single one of them has the same mechanic of make a party and kill the boss. Nyzul Isle is the only one that is a slight twist than your usual "kill the trash - get to the bosses" (Dynamis, Einherjar, Limbus). Sky and Sea is just "pop the NM" kill it. All the new Adoulin contents are just more of the same thing, get a group, kill trash, kill bosses...

I like FF14 way much better. More streamlined and not a convoluted mess that is FF11 currency for endgame, that game is a steaming pile of hot mess. FF14 respect your time, give options and cater heavily to the modern gamers, and yes casual players can be good too

XI fanboys boil down to the pot calling the kettle black. They're angry at wow clones but they champion an everquest clone, it's nothing but a partisan debate and if you think the latter are a significant population and not a dying group of people who's mmo habits shouldn't be encouraged then lol you're delusional.

This isnt even a FFXI fanboy thing it comes down to. I paid for 2.0 content with different skin pretty much. Handouts are given left to right that only favours a person that does not have alot of time and should you have alot of time and your hands and want to play this alot you will get punished in all ways possible. Look at the relic quest for example pretty much not even upgradable instead we get a new story to make a new quest. How much money you want to bet it is going to be exact the same thing as before due to lack of creativity? Regardless of what you say and its an MMORPG, FFXI was not this way and some things that are a grind challenge should have been as they are. The Zeta should just continue to expand from i135 and onwards. That will give old areas replay value for all new people aswell as it can make you feel you earned your relic (slightly).
