Uh....were you expecting something different?
Just be glad we still have tomes unlike WoW where they abandon currency items for gold and left basically no reason to go into dungeons or actually play the game.

Chevrefoil, the only reason to do the top 2 dungeons in this game is for law, the gear that drops from there is unusable at 60 for Alexander, yep, that's right, the new gear SE introduced for level 60's is basically worthless to level 60's because the ilvl is too low to run Alex...... awesome game design there SE, bring in brand new gear that is worthless, bring in dungeons where the only reason to run them is for tokens to upgrade your gear to run another dungeon.
So, we run 60 dungeons which drops gar which is of zero use to a level 60, to get law, to upgrade your gear to run Alexander, to get new ilvl gear for......... standing around waiting for 2 more dungeons to pop which will drop gear on par with Alex, but drops a brand new form of tokens which you need to upgrade your gear to run Alexander part 2? That's fun... really, amazing fun, I so can't wait to repeat the same stuff I've been doing since the start of 2.0.
Charisma: I played FFXI nothing about that game storywise or content wise felt like a repeat for me. So I would understand if you only have non FFXI MMORPG experience that you would reply like that.
SirDarts: To answer your question if you release an expansion shouldnt I be able to enjoy the new areas without having to feel I'm alone here so the only way i can enjoy outside dutyfinder xp is to go back to Northern Thanalan and XP with the rest of the server since somewhere along the way the dev team made the fates in the new areas pretty uninteresting. Just something as the quest in the new areas should tell to do fate name x in the new areas could have given the new content some play value but it didnt.
I have to compare back to FFXI again sadly because the same people who played that kept this game alive with the double subscriptions so you can enjoy this "vertical progression".
Please don't see this as a troll reply or something to start a WoW vs FFXI debate but if you only played FFXI before FFXIV and now FFXIV is your MMORPG only then will you understand.
I can never expect people anything other than FFXI to understand what I'm trying to say.
Reason for this is simple its the same franchise it should be more thought into it.
Just check the game reactor interview with Yoshi P from last year he has no FFXI experience and comes from DAoC and WoW.
When it comes to cashflow and lifting up the company and game to a mainstream commercial level he is doing an amazing job.
This is a business after all but somewhere along this road the people who made this possible for SE and Yoshi P to continue FFXIV are not getting what they signed up for it seems.
I don't think anyone wants a new FFXI but I think ALOT of the FFXI community who came to this still want a challenge that can be rewarding gearwise and contentwise to make you feel you earned something.
You shouldn't continue if you don't like it. Not even sure why you would ask this here.
I see a lot of people defending, but not really giving reasons to defend.
We all got to 60 for the most part in a few days on our mains, now it's just grinding. (Yes we can level other jobs, but the game is already so restricting that not many will be able to fully gear multiple jobs with the best gear available.)
Heavensgrind, Solo-Fantasy Dailies, etc. These aren't unfair nicknames in small groups because it's the same as we always get. A lot of us stick around hoping for something more, but this is a lot of the same. Don't get me wrong though, flying, new areas, more story, dx11, all positive. But there are still the same flaws with the battle system as previous versions, really only a single path to some of the best gear in the game, those that haven't already been following crafting and gathering closely feel discouraged to try to catch up, etc.
Even doing the main story quest together with friends isn't an option. A lot of people play an mmorpg to enjoy the company of others, yet the story is based solely on the 'warrior of light.' It leaves no room for any companions you might want to experience the story with which leaves player interactions, for the most part, very limited to combat/duty finder only. That's not to say people don't socialize, but over half the game is just solo activities.
I think a lot of this could be worked on in the future.

He continues like a great many of us other ffxi fans. We have a passion , love for the final fantasy franchise as a whole from 1 to now. Especially ffxi. We have had a great level of service over the past 10 or so years and was expecting the same zeal and excitement that made ffxi so great to strike twice. This game could and should do more than it is now. We stay cause we hope it will do so. We stay because we love Final Fantasy and this is the next chapter.
The new areas were overfilled with people during these last almost 3 weeks.
Nobody was doing fates? Sure because fates are mindnubbingly boring, unless you zerg them, and it's not worth zerging because HW fates take longer due to higher mob HP.
But there is absolutely nothing forcing you to do FATEs. You chose to do FATEs because it's the fastest consistent way. I have done like 1 or 2 FATEs during my journey from 50 to 60 and that's just because I randomly stumbled upon one and felt like it. There is absolutely no need to do any FATEs to level, at least not with your first character.
No OP I will debate on your comparison on FFXI since you opened that door.
I can actually do stuff on this game because I don't have to find 8 people to kill one bug to progress here.
FFXI was the first mmo I played this is the 2nd and iv played since 1.0 it is much better than FFXI in my opinion. Because you can progress in the story ( except dungeons which is fine ) by your self.
