I actually find the gathering classes (all three of them, though fishing seems more fun) relaxing. And that is from 2.0 to now worth of gathering/leveling those.

But yes, the best way to level them faster, the Grand Company Provision system is the thing you want.

Crafting is much more stressful to me. Especially with that harsh increase between 2.0 1 Stars and 3.0 no stars which are likely 4 stars. Still it is a tad more fun as I have learned a few tricks to do what I need to. I finally got a crafting class to 54. Oo It is sad that it takes hours for my Gathering Phase and only less than an hour for my crafting phase. (I mainly only have been doing the supply and provision thing. >< While my gathering has been fueling my gil needs)

You never smacked a tree. You smacked a sparkle on a tree. Or in a bush. Or on a rock. Or on a different rock.

Wood, ore, gemstones, herbs, vegetables, feathers, some varieties of frog, etc. - they all come from sparkles.

    Sparkle...to...INFINITY!

I wonder... In FFXIV, are Twilight Vampires literal goldmines?

Well, it's... a system. I personally don't feel it's that great, since it has a few painful restrictions. First off, it can only be used on ephemeral or unspoiled nodes. The former of which in HW are only there for a single Eorzea hour, so you feel like you're on the clock. The latter are only available after level 56. Incidentally, none of this is explained in-game, so it causes a lot of confusion for new players trying their collector's glove on standard nodes.

When you finally get around to collecting, your 'durability' is essentially the number of swings on the node. The only way to raise quality to a decent level is to use some rather expensive skills, and since our skill to increase swings also costs a whopping 300 gp, you don't get many chances to get a good result. Low collectability results in a basically worthless item which is inventory +1. Also, you can't turn collectibles in for scrips until level 56, so it's essentially just for XP until this point.

It's a lot more involved, but it does mean saving all your GP for one single harvest and praying to RNG that it will come out okay. I'm still trying to work out the relation between perception and collectability, since the skills say it adds your perception to the total when that's clearly not the case.
