    Too bad there is no way to calculate the % of what items are affected by what and what rules out the chances to obtain said items from the island. Like if materia cancels out housing item or if deep-colored crystals cancel out crafting materials etc. Since there is usually 4-5 different types of items 1 island can give you. Housing crafting mat, Materia, FC Workshop mat, Regular crafting mat, and Deep-color crystal/clusters. I don't think the actual normal crystals play a part since you always seem to get those 100%

    All chances in this game are independent of each other. There is nothing in this game where getting one thing prevents you from getting another. This game focuses on fairly simple behind-the-scenes mechanics, which is nice. Simple, meaning, almost always there's only one variable affecting a derived value, or one you can change and one you can't. Getting a second item appears to be related only to your surveillance and the sector's rating (or cerulean cost). Getting a better gathering rating (normal, high, optimal, etc) appears to be related only to your retrieval stat and the sector's rating/cerulean cost. The number of items you get seems to be only related to the wind and your gathering rating. And so on.

    Don't look for complexity where simplicity makes more sense. It's what makes Yoshida laugh at us xD (his reaction to the favored time theory of atma gathering was hilarious - it was really just a 0.5%-1% RNG chance, nothing more, nothing less)

    Hard not to overthink these things tho, specially when you have people who are in a high demand for obtaining them and it feels like the game knows what you are trying to get. It's almost like how in FFXI when you needed the coffer key for your AF the mobs would never drop a key and you could spend 2 hours farming mobs for a key to finally drop. Then when you didn't need a coffer key for your AF they would constantly drop from every other mob you kill. Honestly it is rather frustrating when you have high survey/retrieve/favor and get SS ranking and the thing you get is the junk item(s) that has 0 value to it. You'd think the higher the ranking the better the rewards would be so that just tends to leading to overthinking about things xD
