I'm not convinced Craftsman's Competence Materia III can actually drop from sector SC07. It's an outlier, with only two reports, and one of them was translated from German and the translator could have easily confused the word that means competence with command or cunning. Dropping that outlier and the other others one-offs that look like they were typos, we get a really clean list. Each sector has the following slots and only the following slots:This means every sector has exactly eight items it can drop. The following caveats and clarifications apply:
- Schematic Material
- FC Crafting Material
- Common Crafting Material
- Unique Housing/Minion Crafting Material
- Materia type 1
- Materia type 2
- Crystal 1
- Crystal 2
- Schematic Materials follow a strict progression from SC01-SC16.
- In sectors after SC16, the Schematic Material slot is filled by Dusk Leather instead.
- FC Crafting Materials follow a strict progression from SC01-SC16.
- In sectors after SC16, the FC Crafting Material slot alternates between Red, Green, and Blue Clusters in that order (RGB), repeating over and over.
- The Common Crafting Materials follow a set pattern which repeats over and over: Ferberite, Gold Ore, Platinum Ore, Scarlet Sap, Birch Branch, Dark Chestnut Branch.
- The Unique Housing/Minion Crafting Materials do not appear to have a pattern (will look more into that later).
- In sectors SC01-SC10, only grade III materia can drop.
- In sectors after SC10, both grade III and IV materia of each of the two types can drop.
- In sectors located on the left third of the map, Earth and Ice Crystals drop.
- In sectors located on the middle third of the map, Lightning and Wind Crystals drop.
- In sectors located on the right third of the map, Fire and Water Crystals drop.
To this end, I'm moving Dusk Leather to the Schematic Material slot and renaming it "Schematic / Special."
EDIT: By the way, when I say "removing outliers," I'd like to point out how many items would have to be typos for everything I've said in this post (and the last one) to be correct. Out of 668 logged voyages, each with 1-8 items obtained (average of ~4 per voyage would give ~2,600 items obtained), exactly 7 of them don't fit the patterns described above. Would anyone mind if I either moved the voyages containing these seven outliers to another part of the sheet that was not considered for our analyses, or if I just replaced the outliers with non-outliers that they could have been? (water/wind mixups due to auto-complete, ice/water mixups due to the graphic being the same, etc)
EDIT2: Also, I wanted to say that there are now exactly 7 holes in the quick reference spreadsheet from sectors SC01-SC22: the unique items from SC18 and SC22, which crystal pairs drop from SC18 and SC21 (they're right on the line), and what the second type of materia is from SC22 (it's either Guerdon or Grasp).
