Our airship, the InvinciDERP (don't ask) went from 19 -> 22 in the last expedition, but didn't unlock second slot yet. It's outfitted with full Invincible components, so stats are 80 all around

Our airship hit 23 today after a solo expedition in Sector 8. Nothing about the log seemed notable but I guess it just decided to let us make airship number 2 now. I don't really understand why but ok. Enterprise propeller, all other parts Invincible. Sectors 1-8 cleared.

Woohoo! And thanks for the detailed report! There were some others who thought that sector 8 might be the key, so I wonder if there might be something to that or if it is just coincidence. If you still have your report, can you tell us what rating you got for the sector?

It might be worth noting that out of the sectors I've got unlocked, 6 is the closest to the newly unlocked sector 11. And I discovered 11 right after going to 6.

This is an incredibly interesting theory! Will you continue to report that kind of information? And I'll be keeping track of ours too! Wouldn't it be interesting if discovering the sector required a specific route, for example, 5 to 4 discovers sector 7, 6 to 5 discovers sector 11, etc. If the discovered sector is within the proximity of that route, perhaps it was the "flyover" that did the trick! Will have to start looking at reports to notice similarities, its the kind of thing that is difficult to know without multiple people giving reports.

Sector 7 is closest to sector 8 out of the ones we have got unlocked.



Other results:

Sector 6 = deep green crystals -> further anomalies => empty crystals
Sector 5 = deep red crystals -> additional anomalies detected. Airship condition insufficient (stats not high enough?)
Sector 7 = fire crystals -> additional anomalies detected. Airship condition insufficient.


Also, sector 8 has a rank 20 requirement

Confirming that S11 unlocked after visiting S6 (S7 > S6). That R30 tho.



11's the greyed out silver 3-star on the top left, 6's immediately to the right, and 7's the 2-star loc to the right of 6.

It seems there may be more than 1 way to unlock a sector.

We were still rank 22 and hadn't unlocked sector 8 yet (was using invincible forecastle along with enterprise aftcastle, so 76 surveillance). I had also been flying 6-5-7 to increase time/range efficiency. On this trip we took a route that would take us closest to sector 8 (6-7-5). I wondered if the trip from 6-7 would do the trick.

When she came back, our flight log showed that we had actually unlocked... sector 10! Which happened going from 7 to 5.

But then when I finalized the report it said that we had unlocked sector 8! It happened at the same time that it told us we ranked up to 24. I'm not sure why it would show sector 10 being discovered in the flight log and not show sector 8, except maybe it was unlocked because of a different condition.

So she is on her way to 8 now, time to get that 2nd airship!

Just another data point on unlocking sectors. Rank 18->19, visiting 5, 6, 4 (3? the one on the left), unlocked sector 11 (after exploring 6, IIRC, but that notice doesn't show up in the log now that I've finalized it once). Have not unlocked sectors 7 or 8 yet. Enterprise Forecastle, all other parts Invincible.

Leveled up today from 20 to 23. We unlocked Airship 2 and Sector 11 at the same time.

Last voyage was Sector 7,8,6,3. Components on last voyage was Enterprise Hull, Bronco Sail, Bronco Forecastle, Enterprise Aftcastle.

Have you been using a bronco forecastle the entire time? With an Enterprise aftcastle you must have 62 Surveillance. We are trying to figure out if surveillance is important for unlocking sectors or if it is something else like a flight path. Any ideas?

I actually have an FC on an alt character that I was thinking of using for the sake of experimentation. I'd like to see how far it can get without improving surveillance at all.

R20-22 today, unlocked S8 after going S6 > S7.

Seems to make sense? that the sectors unlock based on proximity.
Bronco hull + aftcastle, enterprise bladder + forecastle fwiw.
