So far it is a linear increase, which is why I just have the basic stat bonuses/penalties in my stats section. All of the bonuses are in increments of 14, and all the penalties are in decrements of 4. If that changes I definitely will add more detail!
Hi! Thanks for the guide, we have our airship currently at Rank 17. In our last voyage we sent it to sectors 5 > 6. The interesting thing is that it brought 5x "Toy Box Schema" from Sector 5 (optimal retrieval level), as it isnt noted on the main guide, i though it would be important to share itIt seems its a rare item from Sector 5.

I'm sorry if you weren't looking for this, since I skimmed this extremely quickly. But I have confirmation of an S rating to exist, if you need it.![]()
What stats did you have when doing that voyage?
I had Bronco Rigging, Forecastle and Aftcastle. Invincible Hull. Rank 10.

Sector 7: normal retrieval levels resulting in average yield: 21 Cunning III materias.
Sector 4: normal retrieval levels resulting in average yield: 21 Guile III materias.
(retrieval stats at 70)
Rank 17-21
Sector 8 unlocked.
Seems my previous theory on that is incorrect. Didnt need to do a voyage after hitting rank 20 to unlock sector 8.
Just like the rest of you I didnt get any message saying I unlocked it.
Special rank up bonus I suppose? Might require visiting all previous sectors perhaps as well.
Speed stats testing:
[Sector 8 single voyage] (only the values shown in the log, didnt take actual trip)
Speed 70-84
In order to reach sector 8:
5 uurs, 28 minutes -> 4 hours, 33 minutes
Return time:
26 hours, 28 minutes -> 24 hours, 3 minutes
[Sector 7 single voyage]
**note: when sending it on a voyage it says 5 hours for a survey of sector 7, how does this factor into these times?In order to reach sector 7: (Speed 70-84)
4 hours and 17 minutes -> 3 hours and 34 minutes
Return time:
22 hours and 17 minutes -> 20 hours and 34 minutes
[Full voyage 5 => 7 => 8 => 6]
70 Speed:
Return time: 48 hours 25 minutes
84 Speed:
Return time: 42 hours 18 minutes:
Also: Rank 21 ship = 32 airframe capacity
Seems like a linear +1 per rank increase.

So, first voyage after upgrading our survellience, we uncover sector 04 (going from 02 -> 03).
This no wind message seemed odd to me - "No wind or turbulence detected. 2 surveillance levels sufficient for exploration." I've never seen that line before...
(The links below are sadly outdated. I hope to get around to updating things at some point.)
Desynthesis Guide: http://tinyurl.com/ffxivdesynth
Airship Guide: http://tinyurl.com/ffxivairshipguide (\v/) Airship Quick Reference: http://tinyurl.com/ffxivairshipqr
Airship Logsheet: http://tinyurl.com/ffxivairshiplog (/|\) Airship Builder Tool: http://tinyurl.com/ffxivairshipbuilder
There seem to be three weather conditions that we've encountered so far:
- Turbulence which results in "significantly hindered" exploratory capacity
- Winds which result in "slightly hindered"
- Calm weather (like you had)
My theory is that it influences whether you will find a 2nd item node or not. Still not sure what it means by "2 surveillance levels", I wonder if we will see that change as time goes on! People have speculated that favor might have something to do with the weather conditions you encounter. Maybe its not a coincidence that you are seeing this for the first time after upgrading forecastle? (+14 Favor)
Well that is pretty good support for surveillance being important for discovering sectors! \o/
I think there must be some RNG to this, we had steady C's until we upgraded our Aftcastle and then we had steady A's. That lead me to believe aftcastle was fairly important for higher ratings. This could be a fluke but then again so might our results.
I did a round of speed testing that looks very similar to your results. I came to the conclusion that an upgraded rigging and back-to-back trips would result in about 10-15% higher rate of exp, items, and rank-ups.
I think I solved the sector discovery reporting discrepancy XD Today we discovered sector 9, and it told us about the discovery both in the flight log and after we finalized the report. I'm wondering if this is typical behavior, and there might be a bug for sector 8.
Remember previously, I said that we discovered sector 8 and it did not show up in our report, but sector 10 DID show up in our report. I actually went to look at the sector map today... and we have no sector 10! I'm thinking when it reported that we found sector 10 in our flight log it was actually intended to be the message that should report sector 8.
If you still have your flight log from when you discovered sector 8, could you look and see if it mentions discovering sector 10 instead?
Awesome! I'll add it to the list! \o/ Did you find out what it is used for?Hi!

We had something similar happening to our FC airship a few weeks ago.Remember previously, I said that we discovered sector 8 and it did not show up in our report, but sector 10 DID show up in our report. I actually went to look at the sector map today... and we have no sector 10! I'm thinking when it reported that we found sector 10 in our flight log it was actually intended to be the message that should report sector 8.
The flight report said "Discovered Sector 5", but sector 5 did NOT unlock.
What unlocked was sector 4.
I'm not sure if this is a typo, a glitch or what.
I have submited a bug report using the in-game feature for that, hopefully they'll fix this eventually, because airship unlocks are confusing already as it is, we shouldn't have to deal with this kind of typos/glitches..
It's used as a component to craft "Toy Box", a housing item. Don't know if its useful apart from decorative purposes. I'll keep an eye on the guide and I'll report any "airship loots" that are not noted ^^
Btw in the flying report it says High-Quality Toy Box Schema so yea, confirmed its High quality item.
