I decided to remove this from the guide, as per your recommendation. Thinking about it a little bit, it would be better to not report an item that *is* there than make an error the other way (report an item there when it actually isn't). Worst case, someone eventually does confirm it is there and we can add it back in. The worst case of reporting an item that isn't actually there is potentially have people waste their time if that is what they are targeting.
What are your thoughts on sector 3 in the guide, are any of the materia there unreliable?

I totally agree. Check the quick reference sheet for the nearly filled out grid with only the aforementioned four holes left (only one of which is a materia). Here's the materia list from that sheet:
Code:Sector Materia Type 1 Materia Type 2 ------ -------------- -------------- SC01 Dexterity Materia III Vitality Materia III SC02 Battledance Materia III Quicktongue Materia III SC03 Craftsman's Command Materia III Craftsman's Competence Materia III SC04 Gatherer's Grasp Materia III Gatherer's Guile Materia III SC05 Savage Might Materia III Vitality Materia III SC06 Piety Materia III Quicktongue Materia III SC07 Craftsman's Command Materia III Craftsman's Cunning Materia III SC08 Mind Materia III Savage Aim Materia III SC09 Quickarm Materia III Strength Materia III SC10 Gatherer's Guerdon Materia III Gatherer's Guile Materia III SC11 Intelligence Materia III/IV Quicktongue Materia III/IV SC12 Dexterity Materia III/IV Heaven's Eye Materia III/IV SC13 Craftsman's Competence Materia III/IV Craftsman's Cunning Materia III/IV SC14 Intelligence Materia III/IV Heaven's Eye Materia III/IV SC15 Vitality Materia III/IV Savage Aim III/IV SC16 Gatherer's Grasp Materia III/IV Gatherer's Guerdon Materia III/IV SC17 Craftsman's Command Materia III/IV Craftsman's Competence Materia III/IV SC18 Strength Materia III/IV Quickarm Materia III/IV SC19 Mind Materia III/ IV Piety Materia III/IV SC20 Dexterity Materia III/IV Battledance Materia III/IV SC21 Quicktongue Materia III/IV Savage Might Materia III/IV SC22 Gatherer's Guile Materia III/IV Gatherer's Grasp Materia III/IV

That is really impressive pattern uncovering XD As for whether or not to remove items, I'd say it is your call! Mistakes definitely happen in data entry. I did something similar with the guide, someone reported an additional super-rare item in a sector that had a confirmed one, after putting together the tables it became pretty clear that it didn't fit with the pattern.
If there are actually 2 independent reports of the item, I'd be more hesitant, but at the very least we can flag it and remove it if it never shows up again.

Also, the quick reference guide now has a tab with a map on it, courtesy of the captain of the Gaelicat. I'll have to check with him again, but last I heard, he did not have coordinates for the sectors missing from that map yet. I wish it were easier to annotate the map... once it's complete (ie: once I have coords for the other sectors), I'll convert it to an image so I can mark it up. It might reveal a pattern for the unique items - I'm really curious if there is one.
EDIT: Using an older post to add new info to curtail my post spam:
I believe I know what the "High Quality" and "Several High Quality" messages mean. I could be totally wrong - we haven't been tracking HQ status. I think that some items are marked as "High Quality" and some are not. Regardless, if the item itself is HQ, the quality increases by one step. So, if an item would not normally have the "High Quality" message, if you get HQ items, the message states that they are "High Quality." If the item is one that is already marked "High Quality," then the message changes to "Several High Quality" instead.
That said, I don't think there are any items that are not naturally "High Quality" that even have HQ versions, so who knows if an HQ non-"High Quality" item would list as being "High Quality" or not.
The items marked as naturally "High Quality" appear to be oddly chosen. As far as I can tell, the common crafting materials are all "High Quality." If you get, say, NQ Birch Branches, it'll say they are "High Quality." If you get HQ Birch Branches, it'll say they are "Several High Quality."
Marked as naturally High Quality:
- Common crafting materials (NQ = "High Quality," HQ = "Several High Quality")
- FC crafting materials (NQ = "High Quality," HQ = "Several High Quality")
- Unique housing/minion crafting materials (no HQ versions exist as far as I know, as that would be meaningless)
Not naturally High Quality:
- Materia
- Crystals
- Schematic materials (including Dusk Leather)
Please, please let me know if what I said above is wrong. Again, we haven't been tracking NQ/HQ status in the spreadsheet, so it's hard to verify the above. But I'm pretty sure all HQ items have had "Several" in the message.
What does this mean? Well, if it's correct, it means we can ditch the "Rare?" column(s) in the spreadsheet, as they are meaningless. The category of the item would determine what that message said.

Just looked through the Master log b/c i had some HQ Platinum Ore yesterday and was curious if you were right but x.x
The ores are found in all Qualities - but i'd guess if you get HQ its always stating "several" - at least that's what i had in the log
Or aren't Platinum Ores under "common crafting materials" since they are an unspoiled node item? x.x
Guess ill add HQ at the end again when i get some so you get a chance to figure this out![]()

I've never seen the ores not marked as at least "High Quality." Some people reported no early on (I think), but they could have confused NQ/HQ status with the "High Quality" message's presence or absence. Early on, it wasn't clear, especially since the column was marked "High Quality." Also, early on, I didn't have Several as an option because I missed that it was a separate message from "High Quality."
Platinum Ore is a "common crafting material," as in, an item used in normal crafting that can be obtained elsewise, as opposed to FC crafting materials, schematic items, or the unique materials for specific items only obtainable via airship ventures. The list and pattern of the 6 "common crafting materials" is above in my post two posts back.
I'd rather people just post in the notes section of their entry (or in an inserted comment) if they see something that contradicts what I said above. I have to strip out any extraneous letters found in the item boxes so all the data will collate and not appear as separate items on the sector list and item list tabs. It's also why I need to make everything singular and have the same capitalization.
We (Bonzai, Arctic, and I) made the decision not to track HQ items and to strip that info from entries coming in because we hadn't been tracking that data. Starting midway through would have confused the data, we didn't want to add a new field if we could help it or make it take longer to enter log entries, and we couldn't leave it logged in the item box when people put it there because it wouldn't collate with the other reports of those items. Also, there really isn't anything airships bring back that most people care about being HQ or not, so it's not useful data. But, I was curious what the high quality/several message really meant and if we could stop tracking it, so I did that analysis yesterday out of curiosity.
I'll keep an eye out for anomalies, and if you see anything that contradicts my above post, please please point it out (via the notes or a comment)!
(Ha! I quoted you anyway! <_< I'm such a jerk D: )
This is it exactly. Item rolls are independent of each other, and you can get the same item twice.
EDIT: I just looked through every single image posted in this thread of an airship log, and every single one of them followed the rules I listed above for the "High Quality" message.

Fairly certain I've gotten some "Not HQ" results from airships that were, in fact, actually HQ items.
I think that "Several HQ" means that you can exceed your normal gathering quantity.
I've been putting whether or not the items found were HQ (Vivianite HQ, for example) in the log but, as you said, you have not been actively tracking that. I think you probably should start, if only to disprove the theories regarding non-HQ, HQ, and Several HQ and how they correlate to what is actually found.
Iron Giant Cores are the rare from sector 18 apparently.

Wow, so, Iron Giant Core is the unique item from SC18, SC19, and SC20? Weird! Thanks for the report.
And we're down to four holes! Unique from SC22, second materia type besides Guile from SC22, and crystal types from SC18 and SC21.
