Very unlucky, we've finally unlocked the sector 8, while our airship was rank 26 and equipped with invincible parts for many visits around the sector 7 (and 6 and 5).
Tired of waiting, we've sent our airship to the sector 7 alone, and that's when we've finally been blessed by the new discovery.

Also, the voyage log shows that we've unlocked the sector 10, while the chat log says "sector 8 has been discovered" (and it indeed has been as we've sent the airship there).

Going to do the same with ours, also rank 26, and we've got 1-7 & 11. Just got back from a 6-7-5 and before that 5-6-7, so might as well do the solo 7.

Following up, a solo voyage to Sector 7 discovered 8 for us when previous combos like 5-6-7 and and 6-7-5 didn't. Also the log said sector 10, but then the map and chat message was 08.

Sending a solo voyage to 08 now, but we've already visited every other 1* so it won't prove or disprove the visit all 1*s to unlock thought.

In regards to the durability of airship parts, I allowed our airship to completely degrade and was given the following error when I tried to deploy it 'broken'.

"Unable to commence voyage. One or more components require repairs."

It appears that if the condition of any one component fails, the entire ship cannot be deployed. I would further speculate that the condition of any one component has no effect on the quantity or quality of the items returned similar to the condition of our armor and weapons.

This is good information. Would you have those logs to add to our spreadsheet? The other working theory for airships is visiting all of the bronze/silver/gold locations (as sector 8 was generally found to be the last bronze sector most people found).

Edit: I'm an idiot. Waring's original post mentioned not having sector 12 so it's not based on all silver/gold locations after all. Sorry.

lol re read and you have your answer. I going to check again tomorrow, have to wait for airships to get back. But yeah I have unlocked it and been there, more than once. Atm I have no option for a third airship to be registered. Going through the process of building an extra set of airship parts again and getting more flight credits again and see what happens.
