The rest still exist. I want to say that Sector 23 was the annoying one for my FC this year. It felt like it took a couple of months before it was finally discovered.
Having just inherited a dead FC due to the inactivity of literally everyone else in it (yay... I'm so lonely) I'm just now getting into Airships and Subs.
Can someone confirm, are Airships essentially 'dead' content now? Obviously they still exist and can be used, and people do use them, I see the cost of airship components is still fairly high on the MB, and presumably the materials you gain from airships are exclusive to certain crafting recipes for a few older yet still highly sought after items. But there's no new items coming from this content anymore is there? For quite some time now?
Subs seem to be at least twice as indepth, with 4 times as many maps to explore, and can bring back more than just crafting materials.
If I can write off airships, at least for the time being while time and resources are limited and I'm all alone, that'll be good to know.

airships are effectively dead content. really anything you can get from them you can buy off the marketboard.
Except airships are the only source for getting some of those items to the marketboard unless SE chooses to temporarily insert those items into quick ventures.
Oriental Grass Tuft - airship only.
Dusk Leather - airship only.
Fine Alumen - airship only.
Tincalconite (for the pudding furnishing people love around All Saints) - airship only.
Several other items are airship only but have less demand as well.
If you're solely after making as much gil from voyages as possible, then they aren't worth it. But for those with an interest in the items that are airship only, they're needed.
I always send an airship out for Iron Voyage Spoils (Zu mounts), Deep-Red clusters, and Dusk leather. 2 stops.
At least after I finish leveling my scrub sub. I have also gone after Fine Alumen.
Dusk leather regularly sells for 200 - 350K on Sargatanas.
Another reason someone might want an airship in 2024:
If you're just getting started with ships/subs, it can help to build an airship as soon as you've launched your first sub. As additional sub slots are unlocked slowly as you level up and explore more sectors, it can be very helpful to have an airship leveling up and bringing back materials alongside your first sub.
I've been leveling a sub and an airship for just a couple of weeks, and so far my airship is the only one to bring back materials such as bamboo weave and balsa wood scraps. Without those, I wouldn't have been able to unlock higher level sub prototype schematics, which will help my sub level faster. I might retire my airship once I unlock a fourth sub slot, but until then it will be nice to have it running voyages and supporting all my workshop activities. (My sub also has yet to bring back any treasure, whereas my airship has already retrieved about 400k worth of fine alumen.)
