If your a lancer do you "need" to become a dragoon?

I've hit level 30 with my lancer and was wanting to know if I need to become a dragoon for late game. I don't want to be rejected from party's or anything just because I'm lancer and I really don't want to start from level 1 again, So if your a lancer do you "need" to become a dragoon? (sorry for any bad English)

You kind of have to, yeah. I mean, you don't need to in the same sense that you don't need to go to work every day to stay alive. But it's a really wise move and really you practically have to because a lot of gear and actions are locked behind job walls. Like, one new skill every 5 levels up to 50, and then every skill past 50, are job-only.

Also the soul crystal gives you a stat bonus so why not right

You do. Equipping the DRG soulstone boosts your stats and your damage capability. But you don't have to start again at level 1! DRG starts at level 30

Yes you need to become a dragoon. The expansion has effectively killed the "classes" in favor of the jobs. You can't even do limit break 3 as a lancer anymore I don't think.

You basically just equip and item and get new abilities. Nothing else changes, you keep the same abilities, level, and experience you previously had

Another way of phrasing the information given by others is that the base class determines the level. So your DRG level will be equal to your LNC level; no restarting at 1 for the job. You'll actually see that as a DRG, the chat window will say that you've gained Lancer experience points.

All jobs are basically exstensions of the class it's stone equips too. Dragoon is still a Lancer, just with some added skills/more stat points. If you ever unequip your job crystal thats all you lose as well, same exact level regardless.

Expansion didn't have anything to do with it. The only class that was ever viable at 50 was mrd.

You get a 100% xp bonus (armory bonus it's called) for leveling a lower level class than the highest one that you have so it's less of a hassle than you think.
