I suspect that a lot of the commendations I've gotten are simply because I was the only one who stayed around long enough to receive one. XDI do give my commendation to whomever stays in the room long enough without exiting.
I notice if you load too slowly people just leave the room...regardless if you skip a cutscene. (including victory pose)
lol:
Definitely
(-) people who leave the room before the person who does get my commendation.
(-) whole groups that just exit before I load into the area/get back there if I die
I think this can be avoided by not rushing content especially when there is one person who doesn't have a chance to commend anyone at the end. (my definite minuses)
Player
I've noticed comms seems to come rather randomly, had runs where I gave detailed adviced on mechanics, or solo'd a boss, or something other that turned favor of run into parties favor. I've also had runs where I know I screwed up, or caused a wipe, and still got 2-3 comms. Best you can do is just smile when you do get a comm, and queue for the next duty when you don't. /shrug
Whats fun is keeping up Foes Req on A3 for 75% of the fight for 2 Black Mages, a Summoner and a Dark Knight (They do Magic damage too IIRC?) and not even being thanked in chat.
I mean really, people cry all the time about Bards not Singing, but the fact is, Singing properly (not just Foes at the start and never again after the MP runs out) and managing your MP wisely, timing it to coincide with the casters big buffs like Enochian or Dreadwyrm is not exactly "Easy", yet doing it right results in a visible DPS boost for those Cssters, the least they could do is "Hey thanks for Foes".
Is that too much to ask? Commendations are nice, but certainly not required.
Player
I main dps and normally get at least 1 comm in most dungeon/raid runs ive been in. I noticed as long as i go in be friendly crack a few jokes/puns if its a good time for it; it typically always lands me a comm or 2.
Aren't there enough of these kinda' "Boohoo! Pity me now! Pity me!" threads? Do we actually need one for every class?
Best way to get a commendation (aside from playing a tank) is to stand out. I am not talking about playing better then the rest, but standing out in a social away. People join a group and most of the time its only Hi, Hello, Good morning/afternoon/evening, salute and they end it with a Bye or a Goodbye.
When you join a group, ask people how they are, when you see people raging at each other, try and defuse the situation. For me whenever I see someone making a fun joke (nothing racist, sexist, hurtful to the player etc.) I tend to remember them alot more then the others and they often get a commendation from me.
So stand out in a good way.
Ever find it difficult trying to decide which player to give that commendation to, but since you only have one to give, you just have to make to call and do it before everybody leaves? The same is often true for other players and sometimes we're the ones who get picked, and sometimes it's another person. Also I'd remember that every time you get two or three from one run, that means one of the people who gave you theirs didn't get one back from you. So it's best for people not to worry too much about it. Had a run yesterday, everyone did good, but since Machinists get a lot of flack about dps in end game content and I felt they did fine, and dps's don't get as many comms, I decided to give mine to her. I wound up with two somehow so that means either the tank or healer didn't get one but does at mean they didn't deserve it? No.
Sucks when you practically carry a whole run to not get any, but when people don't get the job they're playing well enough that someone else is doing part of it for them, it's rare that they recognize that fact.
Finally, the Parade Chocobo Mount you get for 3000 comms is just the Fat Chocobo mount with a crown on its head. Nothing more. Not confetti. No marching band music surrounding you as you swagger through town. It's just the fat Chocobo.

Bad players commend bad or good players, they don't have a clue anyway so it's lottery. Though they tend to commend more their fellow bad players.
Good players commend good players.
In the end, good players get the most comms in the long run.
