This is how I decide my commendations:

1. Have I popped my challenge? If yes, go to 5. If no, go to 2.
2. Will this pop my challenge? If yes, go to 3. If no, go to 5.
3. Am I a class that will benefit from the bonus? If yes, go to 4. If no, stop.
4. Is there another class that I would rather get the bonus? If yes, stop. If no go to 5.
5. Is anyone still in the dungeon? If yes, go to 6. If no, stop.
6. Did anyone positively stand out in a social manner? If yes, commend. If no, go to 7.
7. Did anyone positively stand out in a gameplay manner? If yes, commend. If no, go to 8.
8. Was anyone new? If yes, commend. If no, go to 9.
9. Did anyone have an amusing/interesting name or glamour? If yes, commend. If no, stop.

While I wish there was a system that allowed us to give a more in depth review on a person's performance by role or job, I know it'd never happen due to ease of abuse and general apathy.

As for me, while I typically grade on performance, that's only if the party I land in is silent for most of the dungeon. If I land in a more talkative group and someone has a funny sense of humor to me, that person is likely to get my commend instead.

Expecting commends should never be a thing. I'll admit that with all the commend I usually got (up to and beyond getting my Parade Chocobo), it's kinda odd to me when I leave with no commends. But do I go around complaining about it? Nope. Aside from already having all the commend rewards, I just don't see any reason to be upset about not getting any.

Fun Fact 1: I only walked away with one commend today out of the Duty Roulettes I did so far, and I Tanked and Healed all of them today, and all said runs were smooth. (Ensured aggro, kept everyone going, etc)

Fun Fact 2: I seem to get more commends tossed my way when my Miqo'te lady is glamored in skimpy gear instead of badass armor. But... but I LIKE the armor I chose for my Miqo'te as a Tank! D:
