When you buy the waist piece using law tomes its listed under armour.
The upgrade item used though is the one for accessories.
Anyone know if this is a bug.... I just spent 300 seals to upgrade it and now have a useless doman item in my inv.

Working as intended. Because waist gives fewer stats compared to other armor so it uses the cheaper upgrade item.
Its been that way for a long time actually, if you'll also notice the amount of Law you need to get it is the same as Acc instead of like the rest of the armor. Same way with Poetics and under.
On the bright side you have a armor upgrade ready for your next class!
No it's not. The items needed to upgrade soldiery/poetics waists were the "armor/leftside" items; as in, sands of time and carbontwine NOT oil of time and carboncoat. Its been that way for a long time actually, if you'll also notice the amount of Law you need to get it is the same as Acc instead of like the rest of the armor. This is the first case where the tomes waist is upgraded by an "accessory/rightside" item instead. So yeah, this will throw off people that were used to tradition. I was one of those people, but fortunately for me I still had other armor to use the item on.
I don't see how anyone could be thrown off by this when you can look at the items required to upgrade in the window before you buy them.
In the past waist was not counted as an accessory so people can be legitimately confused if they are long time players who are/were used to how it has been for a long time prior to this current change. This is as someone else said the first time it is counted as an accessory not an armour piece from what I remember. Left side was always armour in the past, right side always accessories. I too fell victim to this change and like the OP also first thought this is a glitch or bug because waist has always been counted as left side armour piece in the past.

Even now, waist is not counted as an accessory. The dev team was giving the courtesy of having the waist upgradable with a lower cost item. Since waist pieces have the same main stats as accessories and all. But yeah, you could have just looked at the item required to upgrade. It's not like they "tricked" anyone by showing that it needed one item but actually needed another. 100% user error. In the past waist was not counted as an accessory so people can be legitimately confused if they are long time players who are/were used to how it has been for a long time prior to this current change. You know what I meant, treated as an accessory in upgrading.
It does not matter if SE changed it to be more beneficial to the players who wish to upgrade it for less. The fact remains it can be confusing for people who have always in the past had to upgrade waist items using armour components not accessory components. Perhaps you could show some understanding in why it might be confusing especially since the explanation for why it could be confusing to some is simple to understand and legitimate.
I am not having a go at SE for the change, I do not even dislike the change but I do very much understand why it would be confusing and create issues for those used to how it has always been in the past even if I had not fallen prey to it myself.
Unfortunately I did fall prey to it but I am not whining about that, I am just saying why some of us are making the mistake and the mistake is one with a legitimate reason behind it. I am not asking SE to replace items or change it back but I do think this is going to be a common occurrence for quite some time until people are used to a new way of handling a single piece of left side armour that now requires a (previously right side) accessory upgrade item to upgrade.

You have no one to blame but yourself. Attention to detail. I'm saying this and I made the same mistake. Why? I want paying attention. The difference is rather than complain, I learned and moved on, wiser for it.
This thread can be considered a warning notice to others who might also make the same mistake as you did, the OP did, another person did couple posts below OP, I also did and you can be sure a lot of others probably did too. It is a good thing this thread exists to highlight something others might not be aware of so I think some people should drop the condescending attitudes towards those who are helping the community through making others aware of the change by making a thread and talking about it here in case others might also miss it.
