They mentioned that they'd like to avoid releasing a new job in the middle of a patch series, in the future. Don't plan on it.

I don't think they will release another one for a long time, but the only role that hasn't been reinforced now is caster.
I like the red mage idea, but with how the current "supporty DPS" are right now and how everything is about DPS output right down to healers now being required to deal higher damage in order to meet DPS timers on savage raids (according to Yoshi-P), this doesn't seem like a good option to bring out. The current dilemma of red mage is how will it work effectively in the game as it is now while retaining its traditional identity within the Final Fantasy series.
Blue mage has that same identity problem too, but the fix would be a lot more easily approachable despite being at the expense of breaking tradition. Blue mages could wind up being melee DPS, getting skills much like how summoners get their Egi summons, and the "Learn" skill would work more like "Dark Simulacrum" in WoW (likely not from bosses, and definitely within various limitations).
Puppetmaster since we already have automaton puppets in the game ;P
Could be a new job that starts at lv 30 as well, since it could be based on pugilist and being the second job choice for that class.. like the puppetmaster in FFXI used hand2hand weapons, too. with different puppets, that can either heal, cast dmg spells, tank etc.
and since MCH was quiet a disappointment concerning "pet mechanics".. MCH isnt really a pet class. much lower hand2hand damage but therefore pet damage and commands for the pet. And pet individualization concerning the situation. Different automaton frames like ranger, rdm, blm, whm, pld... for sub healing, damage, tanking

I would imagine it would be a dps caster since every other role has received a new job.
The lesson learned from this is not to refrain from introducing changes to gameplay when necessary, but to ease people into it. BRD had the misfortune of being designed around instants and off-GCD attacks and they shoehorned casting into it without revamping the job's overall gameplay to be cohesive with casting.I wouldn't go that far with machinist but if they do it most likely may be a Gun Attachment for level 61 to 70 skill that change the Gun skills into Melee skills. However, we already know how people feels about change a Jobs gameplay style and changing MCh gameplay from a Range user into a Melee DPS user may cause some bad friction so doubt this may happen.
People wouldn't have had this issue if SE had made changes beyond adding WM and that one change to Barrage.
I've seen too much enfire (freaking little PLD wannabes casting enfire on themselves during that fight in the lv60 PLD quest) and swords lit up by Ilberd to not think that RDM is not in the pipes. What worries me is how they're going to implement it.

* The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
* Design ideas:
Red Mage - COMPLETE (https://tinyurl.com/y6tsbnjh), Chemist - Second Pass (https://tinyurl.com/ssuog88), Thief - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/vdjpkoa), Rune Fencer - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/y3fomdp2)
There should be another magic class. Red mage or Geomancer.
the trouble with addind jobs is not that it's heavy, it's they don't test them enough... we can see it with the change on the ninja or the 3 new jobs. the trouble is they don't have a public test server for this... they test this in intern in japan where the connection is not a trouble.
worst, the japanese culture is different on many point, where japanese player will find normal and ok to have some content (like hunt) us people of the rest of world will often receive it badly.
Yoshida and it team need to learn from all this past years... they need to stop to simply develop with japanese people in mind and add people from the rest of the world to the team.... more important they need to add a public test server for the world! not japanese only for allows us to test gameplay and say if it's bad! right now they spend countless hours try to fix trouble it was easy to spot with a public test server!
anyway, i digress.... i see the red mage or the dancer as next jobs.
Samurai and- thanks to Moghome- MOG KNIGHT.
Square, can we have an OCE fanfest now?
