A SAM tank could easily play unlike every other tank job that currently exists. More active blocking/parrying; more emphasis on reactionary techniques. Imagine a job that's actually encouraged to stand in AoEs to absorb and reflect damage.

Right now, among the three tank jobs, we currently don't have anything like that. I'd certainly enjoy a more active-defense style of play.

RDM could easily fill a "supporty DPS" slot next to BRD and MCH with unique buffs of their own (kind of like Astrologian). They'd have access to both THM and CNJ cross-class skills, and would probably be the only other job to get access to Astral Fire/Umbral Ice, though the job would not be centered around it for obvious reasons. BLU, on the other hand, would definitely need to be a different flavor of DPS. Not traditional, no, but then, they kind of eschewed tradition when they made DRK tank to begin with...

I like the red mage idea, but with how the current "supporty DPS" are right now and how everything is about DPS output right down to healers now being required to deal higher damage in order to meet DPS timers on savage raids (according to Yoshi-P), this doesn't seem like a good option to bring out. The current dilemma of red mage is how will it work effectively in the game as it is now while retaining its traditional identity within the Final Fantasy series.

Blue mage has that same identity problem too, but the fix would be a lot more easily approachable despite being at the expense of breaking tradition. Blue mages could wind up being melee DPS, getting skills much like how summoners get their Egi summons, and the "Learn" skill would work more like "Dark Simulacrum" in WoW (likely not from bosses, and definitely within various limitations).

Puppetmaster since we already have automaton puppets in the game ;P

Could be a new job that starts at lv 30 as well, since it could be based on pugilist and being the second job choice for that class.. like the puppetmaster in FFXI used hand2hand weapons, too. with different puppets, that can either heal, cast dmg spells, tank etc.

and since MCH was quiet a disappointment concerning "pet mechanics".. MCH isnt really a pet class. much lower hand2hand damage but therefore pet damage and commands for the pet. And pet individualization concerning the situation. Different automaton frames like ranger, rdm, blm, whm, pld... for sub healing, damage, tanking

I care less about jobs being direct examples of old iterations. I'd prefer jobs that are related to FF even if they have to have their flavor changed a little to fit into the mmo playstyle. There's a reason that the jobs are vastly more popular than Conjurer/Thaumaturge/Marauder/etc.

Out of things in XI that aren't in XIV we have: Red mage, Thief, Beastmaster, Samurai, Bluemage, Corsair, Puppetmaster,Dancer, Geomancer, Runefencer.

Personally I'd like to see Rdm combined with runefencer as a mage-tank with enspells/spikes, maybe thf as a different interpretation of Rogue,
Samurai (maybe playing on their weapon chain role in XI - kinda like nin, different sets of WS lead to a different bonus), bluemage as a frontline mage, dancer as a tp-based healer.

I feel like beastmaster would have a tough time being worked in. I feel like corsair's gimmick has kind of been taken by Astrologian and all thats really left is an aesthetic.
