People like this are the reason high lvl MCHs get kicked. If a macro seems like a good idea to you I don't want to see your dps, lol.
Player

for the love of god, if you are going to use any of these, DON'T make it the reload one. that's a waste of ammo.
the best use of mch ammo with both reload and quick reload is reloading, SplSh,SlSh,ClSh, SlSh, SplSh, ClSh, quick reload, SlSh, ClSh. this lets you get off 3 clean shots with one reload and one quick reload. if you loaded 6 bullets immediately, you'd consume two of them at best on clean shots, and clean shot bullets are wastes. here, you only waste one ammo on a clean shot (the first one), so by loading six bullets you waste one extra ammo and lose one clean shot.

The only viable Machinist-specific macro is one that queues up your Auto-turrets so you can effectively weave them without potential clipping from the click marker being picky about showing up. As others have said nearly all damage-linked macros will be a loss. The only others I have macros for are other targeted skills like Flaming Arrow - for the same reason as above, to weave easier without clipping from the short window you have.
I use the one for buffs (in a slightly different order), as well as the Rapid Fire/Wildfire one (as I generally only use them together and they have the same CD) and I have no issues dealing damage as expected. For me, this was less an "easy mode" and more of a way to save some hotbar space (as I'm on PS4, and already use 3 hotbars for combat alone; 2 normal, 1 PvP specific)
Yes, if you try to macro everything, you will suffer a DPS loss, but let's not be so doom and gloom about something that IS helpful IF you do it right.
Validity and usefulness aside, the OP is attempting to help other MCH players, and if no one else says it, thank you.

Macros are not good for max-DPS, just that queues up your Auto-turrets is a bit helpful.

Was there any reason to bump this year old topic? Macros are bad for DPS. Period. Hell, even a Provoke Macro is bad.
Until SE can make macros activate in a manner where they can cancel animations, they will forever be bad.
Don't use skill or buff macros for Machinist. Just don't. The only macros which I feel are viable for MCH in any circumstance are these two that I use because ground targeting is a bitch and this allows me to queue in a Rook between two cast-time skills with 0 GCD delay.
Rook Buddy
/micon "Rook Autoturret"
/ac "Rook Autoturret" <me>
Bishop Buddy
/micon "Bishop Autoturret"
/ac "Bishop Autoturret" <t>
/ac "Bishop Autoturret" <me>
I also play on controller as someone whined about earlier and I have absolutely NO NEED to macro ANY SKILLS together to perform respectable DPS. i220 pulling ~1300-1350 on the SSS dummies. I can down the A6S one with lucky procs;;;
My hotbars for controller:
Main bar along with my buff bars which do nothing but show me recasts for skills.
Expanded bars (L2>R2 brings up the left side, R2>L2 brings up the right side)
Tab bar (tap R1 to cycle between main and this one)
Only thing I'm lacking is the ability to toggle Promotion to cut down the dps loss from using it, but I feel that's not something I really care to try and master, since alt Job.
The macro on the buff bars is:
Do not macro buffs.
Do not macro GCDs.
If you do, you are bad.
Stop doing it.
There's no grey area.
There's no good enough excuse.
There's a vast amount of hotbar space, even on controller.
Stop using skill macros.
STOP USING BUFF MACROS.

I do not use macros for any class UNLESS it's a double weaved ogcd that won't clip, such as bfb & bl on DRG
And since I need credentials....I play on controller & my 221 MCH does 1600~ (according to the SSS HP/time calculator)& I can down up to A7S & with lucky crits A8(stupid rng), & using two skills under a macro in any case is a bad idea. I did however used to have a macro for my buff rotation but it was....it was just a bad idea. The morale of this entire post, Macro + DPS = Not smart

Isn't necromancy frowned upon in Eorzea? Why rez a year old thread?
