Protect question

I\\'ve just returned to playing the game after 7 months off and have a quick question regarding Protect. It used to be that WHM had superior Protect, is that still the case?

No, all Protects now give magic defense as well.

Does not really make much of a difference though, as you usually only have to cast it once at the beginning.

Yes, they did. Graniteskin no longer exists; WHM instead has a shorter cast time for it. Proshell was actually replaced, not with a cast time reduction as mentioned above, but with Enhanced Medica, which gives a chance for your next Medica to cost half MP.

I'm sorry but, what are you talking about? All three healers cast Protect with a 3s base GCD, 2.5s recast.
