    Perception to rarity ratio

I'm curious if anyone had done any testing to figure how much perception you need to raise rarity by one. I did some simple math and the results I got were not reflected in game.

So I'm wondering if there's some more complicated conversion formula at work here.

    Any info would be appreciated

While I haven't verifed myself that the numbers actually match up, the Appraisal descriptions are pretty clear:

    - Methodical Appraisal: Increases item rarity by perception x1. So, if you have 300 perception, this will increase rarity by 300.
    - Impulsive Appraisal: Increases item rarity by perception x0.9. So, if you have 300 perception, this will increase rarity by 270.
    - Instinctual Appraisal: Increases item rarity by perception x0.8-1.5. So, if you have 300 perception, this will increase rarity by a random value between 240 and 450.

Do these numbers not match what you are seeing?

Of course not, it'd be too easy to max out the 1000 rarity in 2 swings since I have over 670 perception

The 300 perception = 300 rarity thing is just the base value, that's getting modified by the item you're gathering (similar to quality/progress increases changing based on craft difficulty). You'll get more rarity out of a 57 item than a 59 item. How it is specifically modified is beyond me but it seems to be a fairly heavy percentage decrease based on the level difference between you and the item in question.

I'm guessing that items have rarity caps on them similar to how items have hq% Caps that can not be exceeded even if you add more perception.

My hunch is that current items are capped at about 103 rarity per x1 appraisal. Need testing to verify.

Edit: I think 103 actally was from an x.9 appraisal. 115 from x1 as the below poster says seems accurate. So far I haven't been able to exceed these values. I'm sitting at 664 perception atm.

    This is incorrect.

The Collectibility Rating is actually tiered. You'll Notice that once you have roughly 580 Perception, no matter how much more perception you get, your appraisals won't give you more collectibility. I've done testing all the way up to 694 (I'm thinking 701 is the next tier) and from 580-694 at least, no matter what node and no matter what item you will get 115 Collectibility from a methodical appraisal. (172 if you have Discerning Eye on).

Where did you get 701 from?

I've said it before, I'll say it again .. I think they misspoke when they called it Perception. I think that those Appraisal moves were meant to say Efficiency, and that efficiency is based off of your Perception.

Rather like how when you do crafting, your Synthesis moves add Progress based on several factors, but the one over which you have the most control is Craftsmanship, which is what the Efficiency is based upon. Or how, also in crafting, Touch moves are based on Control, but go by Efficiency.

No, it's correct. There is no tier, there is only a cap.
