    Tanking and Regen

I was running low level roulette and was booted from the group late into the dungeon after the tank complained that regen was stealing all his enmity. I was applying regen before the pull. Is this looked down upon? Is aggro that hard to gain in initially? The tank was a DRK.

it depends DRK is known as the king of aggro for a reason but in a case like that if the monsters go for you then they have to chase the monster to aggro them... and if you are like most healer you will end up panicking when you see enemy's coming at you and run away. which farther increases the time the tank has to chase them in order to get the aggro.

It's more on the lines that it's dangerous to. Regen right after the first Flash/Unleash/Overpower is fine, but before that, the adds will go right for you. It's more of a nuisance/annoyance than anything for tanks, though depending on the tanking ability it COULD lead to the healer's death and a wipe.

Don't ever use Regen on the tank before he pulls, only after. This will save you a lot of issues.

To echo the above posts, using regen before a pull causes you to front load a huge crapload of enmity on yourself. Depending on the circumstances and positioning, it can make it difficult for a tank to acquire aggro before everything goes pear shaped, and I'm sure most tanks have experienced at least one over zealous healer causing a wipe because they couldn't let off before the pull was actually made. Before pulls and between add phases, just focus on topping everyone up. Save the regens for when there's actually something to regen.

it would save them a lot of issues too if their tank would actually try to unleash/abyssal drain/flash/overpower loose mobs. -.- regardless, you are probably right that they should not use regen as they have been if their tank's ability to keep enmity leaves much to be desired.

i mean personally it's never really been much of a problem for me. the only time i can remember it being a problem was when i was doing story garuda. but i would have done things different now than i did then and it wouldn't be a problem.

Early game/dungeons you can get away with it. It's frowned upon, but not a killer, aggro can be regained easily enough while you're still alive. Endgame raiding, you having regen on the tank can mean you wipe the party. (Boss aggros you, your stood with party, party takes first cleave for example. Or a trash mob destroys you as you plain don't have the defense to be tanking them.)

Just make life easy, let the tank gain aggro, only takes a few seconds > divine seal > catch up.

Yup what everyone said. Before a pull everyone is at zero on the threat table. Going into a pull with regenb places the healer at +1 above the tankmaking Ita catch up game

Regen is fine on anything other than mass pulls during speed runs really. If you are going to use Regen between pulls just make sure to keep close to your tank so they can AoE the mobs off you and don't get upset if you get smacked upside the head by said mobs. As for raid bosses and such unless it's a multi enemy pull there's 0 reason you can't use Regen unless you have a terrible tank that doesn't know what shield lob or tomahawk does.

Other than the point about not using regen during a big pull of speed run, this is just plain bad advice.

CAN a tank recover the enmity in harder content? Sure, probably if they have half a clue.

IS it still damned irritating and just bad healing habits? Yep.
