    Dungeon Ideas!

    Kind of getting bored of the follow a specific path to kill x boss and mobs in every dungeon. If you are to, what are some different/new/fun dungeons ideas you have thought of!!? Maybe SE will implement some.



    Dungeon Defense!

    Instead of us raiding a dungeon, how about the monsters attack something we have to defend!!(lawl hamlet?)

    Could work like we have to defend "Gates" or "Check Points" from waves of monsters and if we died we would get responded in the next area waiting for if they broke through(still getting xp if our party ended up killing the wave). At certain points in the wave boss mobs would come through. There would also be traps and gimmicks we could set in the dungeon or activate to hurt the enemies.

    Failing to defend the dungeon would just result in not getting the end of dungeon xp or boss xp if they were still alive.


    Open World Dungeons/Skirmishes (Instance)

    Where we are sent to war or something and have to battle different groups of mobs around an open world map, if were able to push all the mobs back or kill the "General/Leader" we win the war.

    imagine something like dynasty warriors.

    Non-set path type dungeon.

    Dungeon similar to how they are now, but instead of having to kill the bosses in order, we can follow different paths to kill w/e boss we want first/second/third/last. and depending on who or what we kill first they could give different bosses different buffs or debuffs.


    Golden Saucer Boss Roulette!

    Enter a instance that could be like the golden saucer main event stage and spin a roulette wheel or just have random bosses when you enter, and battle them. Could just use old bosses from dungeons/raids and could even award mgp. I imagine this could be fairly cheap to implement since you could just reuse a lot of resources.


    What are some of your ideas? This could even be extended to raids i guess.

    I still just wanna see randomly generated dungeons with bosses selected from a pool of every boss in the game that doesnt have terrain specific mechanics. Naturally scaled to 4/8/24. Loot can be aetherials of an ilvl appropriate to the difficulty you set it to.

    Edit: By randomly generated, i mean literally randomly generated. Trash mob placements, terrain layout, boss placement and everything. Make it like a zone where you have to hunt for the boss ...

    Followed your link from a newer related thread.

    I would love to see an inverted (e.g. defense) dungeon. I'd just point out that I'd like to see a more than a single section of it, even at ideal play (e.g. holding at the first line of defense, probably because we're over-geared). Personally I imagine these as more of modified 8-man-ish content, given that that would allow you to split up to some degree, thereby allowing for flanks, back-line preparation, etc.

    However, I feel that Open World Dungeons would need a fair bit of structure built up beforehand in order to function enjoyably and meaningfully. (E.g. if you wanted to storm a Garlean base, that should probably come after having already stolen a gunship, having implanted spies, having mapped out the base, etc., in the MSQ or similar open-ish activities beforehand, likely immediately proceeded by a strategy meeting and a, "well then, Warrior, how do we proceed?" or the like.)

    Non-set path type dungeons, similarly, need to be more than just non-set. They need to be to at least some degree non-set-able. In a ruins dungeon, have slightly different areas clear by default, and different tools for clearing or navigating the rules hidden away in patterned but nonetheless random locations. Maybe even have one shortcut only usable if you have, say, the SW boss crash into the column at its arena's edge, thereby creating a makeshift bridge over the nearby chasm, etc.

    Rather than such radical changes to dungeon structure, I'd like dungeon trash pulls to be made more exciting via mechanics (the same way boss fights are 1/3-2/3 mechanics and not pure tank/heal/damage and dodge aoes for ten minutes straight). In fact, I'd like them to be something more than the filler between the actual meat of the dungeon, the bosses.

    Well for Defense they are pretty much fates.

    I like your Gold Saucer Idea I recall FFVII Had an arena for that for solo. Hoping they place that.

    Perhaps have a PVP Arena Challenge in Gold Saucer for Currency.

    Would be Nice to do a Floor based dungeon like PoD that only has one tough enemy for Faster farming. Maybe for Poetics or Lore with a daily limit. or Newer versions that give more tomes.

    How is it grinding? It would cut time, most dungeons go for 15-20 minutes with decent group. My suggestion is a 5-10 min tops per session for competent/vets players. Now if you want it as a lvl 1 yeah this wouldn't work. Again a comment from a player with no loadstone profile or blocked. Would you mind making it public? Just curious on your Job stats, achievements, and Jobs your work on.

    Why dont they just take POTD and expand on it. Have all end game dungeons be like mazes that have more rooms per floor and set bosses.

    Re:Lodestone profile - no idea how.

    Re:Grind - as you said, it will be something people breeze through to farm things, which is a form of grinding. and depending on balance, it will be either OP or useless, imo.

    I really like the idea of a dungeon defense setup! =)

    It'd even be interesting to simply have dungeons that have some things shifted around such as 3 bosses back to back and then waves of trash at the end in some kind of challenging 'fight your way out' setup. Just about anything, really! It's always interesting and memorable when encounters alter your expectations surrounding a scenario.
