This is a depressing thread for a new player/Scholar lol.
This is a depressing thread for a new player/Scholar lol.
TBH - Scholar is still in a very good place. The biggest 'problems' right now are fairy scaling and the fact that our lvl 60 ability sucks. I mean, I'd like both fixed - but it doesn't make scholar trash or anything. Combined with lustrate change(nerf depending on your feelings) it makes multitasking/DPSing a little harder though.
Added data points for a level 58 SCH to the data sheet. Also added a comparison of an 0 ilvl equal MD / MND / Det 60 WHM versus a 50 WHM as well as an 0 ilvl equal MD /MND / Det 55 SCH versus a 50 SCH.
I'm going to play Devil's Advocate and state the unpopular opinion outright.
True, fairy output is significantly lower when compared to the output the Scholar can bring to the table (Aldo power versus Embrace power at 50 compared to 60)
False, fairy was never weakened during the course of leveling. She only "grew" (shrunk?) by the intended level curve given to her during the inception of the Job.
What actually is happening is the Scholar is getting more powerful as they level. This was different pre-50 when both Scholar and Fairy got slightly weaker on each level. I showed this by showing that a lower level Scholar and Fairy of equal MD / MND / Det to a higher level Scholar and fairy actually outputted a higher Physick / Embrace amount.
Now, the Scholar and White Mage (and by extension, I imagine all the class/jobs) gets stronger as they level past 50, as shown by the fact that a 0ilvl 60 WHM (or 55 SCH) has more power than a 0 ilvl 50 WHM (or 50 SCH) with equal MD / MND / Det.
Why this doesn't occur with the Fairy? Who's to say - for all we know this could be a rather severe oversight on S-E's part and didn't realize they missed the part about the Fairy needs a level curve too.
I'll probably end up putting a bug report up to this effect some time in the near future and see what the "response" is.
Sorry if I scared you =p My intent wasn't to scare new players / Scholars off. Instead, I was to trying to determine why the Fairy doesn't seem to scale properly in a post 50+ environment and see if other theorycrafters can find anything amiss with my logic / testing methodology.
Scholar is still in a really good spot at this time and the only real complaint I have about the Job would be Dissipation.
Your numbers. From lvl 15-50 it scales at constant rate according to level( i.e. it's scaling). What you believe you are seeing there is not a negative trend. Then from 50-60, Embrace strength remains fixed at constant value while sch heal strentgh scales according to level.
This just shows that the fairy heal is not scaling from lvl 50 onwards.
How was
While there are a couple of things I would like to see addressed (mainly Dissipation being so underwhelming/punishing to use and fairy heal scaling being so different from that of the player's), prospective SCHs have nothing to be scared of just yet; the Job is quite powerful otherwise.
Honestly, I think a new report is in order, specific to the observations regarding fairy scaling should be made. The one thats been submitted is unspecific and may even have been accepted to address the lustrate/indom scaling for all we know. The wording is vague, and it sounds like they said they summoned the fairy and THEN changed gear and it didn't scale - which is the snapshotting in effect.
Right now, the fairy has apparently ceased to scale with gear. It should also be noted that in my case the fairy heals got weaker going from 50 to 51+ (I recall seeing 1k+ at 50 in i100-110 gear, and now see around 950 since level 54 when I first noticed the drop)
I'd suggest taking this data and including a link to it in the report.
Added level 59 data points.
While you do notice the Fairy's embraces growing stronger as the SCH levels pre-50, that's just the stat growth overcoming the negative level correlation.Your numbers. When you take two different level but equal MND / Det / MD SCHs, the lower level SCH will have stronger spells and Embrace, meaning that the SCH and Fairy gets weaker as you leveled pre-50.
This trend changed for the SCH (and probably every class) post-50, probably as part of S-E's balancing for Heavensward release. In post-50, despite having a lower stat growth, if you compare two different level but equal MND / DET / MD SCHs, the higher level SCH would have the more potent spells.
It feels like what S-E did was change the formula for the Scholar, but forgot to do something similar for the Fairy. Whether this is intended or not, well, that leads too...
I intend to post a report this weekend. Just don't have the real time to put it together at this juncture but should come Friday night / weekend.Honestly, I think a new report is in order, specific to the observations regarding fairy scaling should be made. I honestly thought I would hate dissipation, but it actually kind of handy. It serves 2 functions really
1)It's raw fodder for Indomitability and Lustrate. Its the Panic button for when you have no Panic button, so you can have a panic buttion, kind of buttion.
2)It's something you cast when aetherflow is at 50% cool down to manage your MP after you somehow spent most of your MP (Multiple Resurrections from some not knowing mechanics). Blow all your Aetherflow stacks,if you have any, by using Energy Drain or by casting Indomitability/Lustrate to save MP. By the time Dissipation has faded you can quick Swift summon your Fairy.
Yes, I know it costs 3 energy drains to bring your fairy back (about 2600), but you were able to spend 3 to get an equivalent if not more amount of MP, while still having a solid option of having quick access to Lustrate/Indom.All that on top of the MP you're gaining from the Aetherflow refresh and the MP you're saving with Aetherflow cost skills.

Indom MP equivalent closest = Succor (About 1.5kish)
Lustrate MP equivalent closest = Adlo (About 1.1kish)
Energy drain gives you about 900MP back
Sorry for double post, 1k character limit crunched me. :c
Casting it after a roused/Fey Illuminated whispering dawn is the best case.
Or when the boss is at low % and its Broil +Energy Drain combo crunch time.
The skill could be better, but it could be worse too. :c

Added level 60 data points to the chart.
Though I guess it's a little moot to make a bug report post now due to Live Letter XXIII Question #15
I have an array of various ilvl weapons in my retainer for level 50, so I'm going to see what the difference in growth is between the two level tiers. The level 50 growth should be steeper versus the level 60 growth due to the lower ilvl limit as well as smaller inclines in the ilvl jumps.Q15. It feels as if the fairies are curing for less at level 60 than they were at level 50. Are stats affecting this?
A15. This is because the growth curve from level 1 to 50 and 51 to 60 has changed and has been loosened. Since playing at the level 60 cap will continue for some time, we took the increase of item level into consideration when balancing their healing output.
