Can anyone explain how this skill is supposed to work ? I went to try it out yesterday. I got my wear at 35/30 so it would let me use the skill, I used it and it said "Has no effect". I had like 500 GP when I used it, so I used the skill 10 times in a row thinking maybe it was an RNG proc or something and every time it said "Has no effect".

What am I doing wrong ?

I used it myself on an ephemeral node material and it seemed to have no effect at all so far.
Tried to use appraisal skills but couldn't because item was beyond it's wear and when I managed to collect the item despite the 10%, I did not see any increase in collectability at all, so I believe this
skill is broken at the moment, otherwise it's a waste of a skill as it does nothing to help you.

The botanist version says it's supposed to be used AT the maximum item wear... Of course, it couldn't be used then.
Went beyond max just to try. Zero effect when actually using it of course.

One response here on reddit says they only got 10 over. Either way, the reduction to 10% gather rate is incredibly steep for such a marginal gain.

If something has messed up (either human error or you were relying on impulsive appraisal) and you are just beneath the threshold by 10+, then it may be worth it to use last ditch as literally a last ditch attempt, but don't expect anything at 10% success rate.

u have done nothing wrong, the design of the skill is wrong, it's useless, basically..

Did you even use it? Getting ~10-20 over the listed value is not unusual for gathering collectables.

This confused me today. I messed up my rotation on an ephemeral node and ended up at 40/30 wear. I was at 480 or so collectibility (i think) but only 10% chance. I hit last ditch and collected at 585 collectibility. Got my first landbourne sand

Was it a fluke i was able to collect?

I think it's bad wording by the devs; every skill regarding actual "collectability" uses the word "rarity" (稀少度) but Last Ditch alone outright says collectability (蒐集価値). I wonder if it actually increases gathering chance instead of rarity, or maybe some small combination of both.

For what it's worth, keep in mind that if you have GP left, you can use one of the Field Mastery skills to boost your chance to gather.

Not if its over the max, it stays at 10%
