Need help with The Reason Roaille

okay. I'm having some issues with this quest. mostly because I get overwhelmed by the mobs, and the NPC's tend to get killed off fairly quickly, due to them standing in bad. <.<

but I was wondering, if anyone knew of any pointers. I know I'm suppose to take the healers down first and foremost, but as I said, I get overwhelmed by the number of mobs included. :|

would getting better gear help me with damage output? what about upgrading my weapon? I'm currently farming for Atma stones, so should I do that, as well as the book farming, to fully maximize my potential?

to be honest, my biggest issue right now, is not being able to clear the waves quickly enough, before the next one spawns. If I can clear at least the major threats (if not the whole wave of adds if possible), I should be able to damage my main target enough, before the next wave approaches.

I know, this is the 2nd to last quest for the "Dreams of Ice" storyline, then I've got "Before the Fall", and finally "Heavensward". I feel bad, for not being able to do this quest, so any and all pointers would be helpful...I'm currently playing a lvl 50 Dragoon. I've got a PS3 controller to use on the PC, as I find it's easier that way.

    1st Wave:
Ignore the Razor (Literally all fight)
    Kill the medics
    wipe up stragglers
    kill mech

    2nd wave:
Kill Hands after they aggro on npcs
    ignore stragglers for the moment

    3rd wave:
Kill channeling enemy connected to the mech
Focus down mech & Aoe stragglers

    4th wave:

Focus down the mechs one by one (or two by two if you can)
    kill off stragglers

Wait, I DON'T attack the Razor at all? O.o Shoot. I thought I had to focus some attacks on her. So my role in this, is to support the NPC's, by beating up the Razor's reinforcements...hmm. :| I've heard bad stuff about Wave 4, so I guess my only real option, is to spend the time, upgrading my gear and weapon, then once I feel I can't upgrade any longer, I'll give it another go.

Also, if I happen to be past lvl 50, and it syncs my level, do my stats go down, or do they stay the same? I've been playing for close to a year, so I should know this by now. >.<

It will sync your level, but if you have the gil you might as well walk into Ishgard and buy the starting item level 115 gear (alternatively, it may be cheaper on the market board depending on your server). This should give you an advantage even if it does level sync you because you will still be pretty well off in terms of stats.

I"m pretty sure you can do the fight at less than item level 90 though so don't fret if you're above that.

how can I access Ishguard, if I need to finish this quest, as well as 2.5's quests though? :|

I thought the developers said that you could walk into Ishgard regardless of your progress in the story, it's just that you wouldn't be able to leave the city or have access to any quests in the city. There's a guard near the gates to Ishgard in Coerthas if you want to try, he's kind of tucked into a corner.

tucked into a corner...alright, I'll give it a shot, and edit this post whether I can get through or not. thanks for the help. ^.^

edit1: I remember reading that, but I think they changed it. best I can do, is check the MB on Zalera, and see what's available.

bah...everything's close to a million gil. :| guess my only option at this point, is to run CT multiple times for Tomestones, and get upgrades from the vendor in Revenant's Toll.

edit2: I bought a weapon for around 45k, and it brought my iLvl from 84 to 88, so that did help...my chest armor can be upgraded too...though I can either get enough Tomestones, or pray, that I somehow find 500k <.<

edit3: sigh...weapon didn't do squat. only way I can manage this now, is by getting enough gil to buy the upgrades, and getting to lvl 60 through FATE's or something...and unless I can nearly one-shot the mobs, Illberd will get killed by the 3rd wave.

edit4: I decided to start a fresh character over from scratch...not something I'm real keen on, but if I can get MUCH better gear from the story quests, then it'll be worth it, so long as I can clear Reason Roallie at last. <.<

edit5: Well, after getting some upgrades via running Syrcus Tower and World of Darkness, I managed to get my iLvl to 111 and figured I'd give it another shot. This is after learning, that if you fail multiple times, the Echo will kick in...Illberd got down to roughly 40% health, by the time I took the last big enemy down, and finished off the remaining enemies, before attacking Ivy...who was around 10% health. It didn't take long, before what remained of the Crystal Braves, and the Shinobi to finish Ivy off. Now I'm sitting in queue for Chrysalis, before I can resume questing in 2.5

hoping my PC can handle the Heavensward areas, otherwise I'm in trouble. :|
