    MMO Vet Questions

    Hey all,

So, I'm a long time MMO player. All the big name MMOs, some Paid, some Free, I've played, normally as an end-game oriented player, lots of raiding, etc.

My question is this; How is the raiding and dungeons here? I haven't done much in the way of dungeons, but so far they seem super easy, requiring no concentration other than avoiding the big glowing areas for AoE attacks.

Do they get harder? I liked the shard mechanics in the Ifrit fight, for example, that felt like the right direction. Is there a ton more of that later on?

Additionally; What's the preferred DPS right now, Ranged or Melee?

    Thanks for your time! =D

The story mode dungeons will be staying around the difficulty you've experienced so far, but there is/will be much harder content as well. If you like the primal fight (Ifrit) there are a lot more just primal fights with nifty little mechanics, and extreme modes that really compound everything.

Just check out a video of Titan EX:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wR3aPDe5fcI

Monks always seem to be a great top DPS choice, they've been pumping out high dps off and on for a while lol. Every DD class is acceptable except it seems MCH and maybe a little bit for BRD (neither which I play) are needing some love (from reading the forums, again have not played them - if they actually have issues they'll be buffed at some point). I would try all the classes at least a little, minus the look of egis (lol) I like SMN for its high adaptability (and 3.0 gave it a buff).

End game raider here I can tell you some fights are hard to the point that a month or two will be required before you can finally down the fight. If a fight is particularly hard it will take 3-4months of effort. T13 and the like will require serious investment in time and effort. And you'll be required to push your class to its absolute limit weither that be aggro generation and cooldown use as a tank or healing effectively or just plan putting out the required dps.

I should make a note that right now at the time of this post there is no raid right now that is current due to heavensward being just released but rest assured in the following few weeks content will get much harder with the new raids being released.

The 4-man dungeons are meant to be "light" content, so they're not too tough generally. Veterans shouldn't have much difficulty with them unless you're getting other really... questionable skill players. Mind you, you're still at level 25, which is easy in the realm of intro dungeons; the first content that even starts to challenge most players isn't until 32+ as the game starts adding more complicated or punishing mechanics. Essentially, the game is just trying at this point to drill into you the basics (Don't stand in bad. Attack adds. Etc.). Ifrit was essentially a basic competency check.

Raid-level content is another thing entirely though; you can technically start it at level 50 with Extreme Primals and the Binding Coil of Bahamut; and there'll be even more once you hit 60. Now, some of that 'high tier' content is more difficult than others for a variety of reasons, but there's adjustable challenge options now too (Ifrit Extreme in whatever level 50 gear you want is a massive difference from an undersized party or minimum gear level fight with Ifrit EX). I'm sure there's plenty to challenge players who're here specifically looking for it.

In terms of damage, generally speaking? Melee DPS > Casters > Ranged Physical. The big catch here though is that these actually level out in general due to things like having to handle mechanics, the need for spacing in high level content (You really can't 8 melee range a lot of fights, it just Won't Work for various reasons), etc; so there's generally a call for every class.

I should make a note that right now at the time of this post there is no raid right now that is current due to heavensward being just released but rest assured in the following few weeks content will get much harder with the new raids being released.
Well, depends on if you want to qualify Ravana Extreme or not (It certainly has the difficulty one would expect). And by the time the OP would get anywhere close to 60, Alexander should be open and running.
