Expansion based on Pre-Calamity

No no! Or at least not yet. Right now that idea comes far too close to Wings of the Goddess for my liking. Time travel is just one staple in Final Fantasy story-telling and before we revisit that again, we should be looking at some of the others which have been under-represented in the MMOs.

I can think of two which I would really enjoy. Space travel, or more specifically travelling to the moon. Previously seen as the origins of monsters and summons as well as a catalyst for many events in the FF stories. The massive open areas could easily be contrasted with the likes of space stations as well as some new beastman/primal architecture. Would probably be a magitek bonanza.

If we look in the opposite direction we may instead look at an Underworld, practically like a whole other world that's been hiding beneath us all this time. In Final Fantasy 4 there was an underworld that was expansive and open on a very similar level to the overworld. Not to mention it housed the dark crystals (a possible link to this supposed Warrior of Darkness?). It need not be all fire-oriented because even in the case of FF4 you had caves which led to seemingly ludicrous places such as the home of summons. We have aether which, like Mako flows through the planet so there's that too. It will be like a new crystal-rush to the beastmen. And it would be interesting to see how these underground expanses link new paths between the city-states.

Well yeah, that's what I want. More prevalent futuristic inspirations or some sort of breach into an underworld filled with rich materials and amazing craftsmanship that's been long forgotten to the overworld. Speaking of craftsmanship and underworlds, playable dwarves.

I think WoW was at one stage going to have an underground expansion, even had a map for one of the zones I believe. would be cool to see something like that, space sounds cool too although i'd give it a while until we start going into space.
