This wasn't a surprise to me. Yoshi-P did say awhile ago that he was planning on making the primary focus on DoW/M, with crafting and gathering going into a secondary role.
After all, this is Final Fantasy, not Harvest Moon.
lol .. this is funny.
I don't think there are many people that don't have a DOW/DOM class to lvl 25, besides the new ones. What is the point of levelling craft jobs only, how would they craft the HQ's without some HQ mats that can only be obtained through battle..?
Again, the point is that Yoshida turn his back on crafters and gatherers. Battle classes have their game contents, we, crafters, didn't bitch about it. However, "Chocobo" the signature of FF series, and we can't even get one of our own. Then, whatelse can keep us playing "FINAL FANTASY".

Just take the time to level up a battle class. I think everyone should try out all aspects of the game anyway, and r25 isn't bad at all. If you refuse to do that when the option is open to you then you really have no excuse.
While I agree with your sentiment of trying everything, it's not really fair. DoW/M aren't forced to learn a craft in order to gain access to all of the games content. If SE is going to do something like this, they need to add a serious perk for crafters and gatherers to balance things out.
Guys, the Empire is attacking!
That's the whole reason for the resurrection of the Grand Companies in the first place.
If you consider yourself a full time Miner, and a Garlean Soldier comes to slaughter your family, are you saying you WOULDNT swing your pickaxe at his face? Its a VERY small stretch to lvl up MRD.
But dont get me wrong...Pickaxes and Hatchets should definitely be able to hurt things.
oh no the empire attacks the company and they have a caravan of supplies sitting in the camp, but there is no gear nor weapons in it because the company had no crafters to make the gear nor gatherers to get the materials for them. whatever are we to do?Guys, the Empire is attacking!

edit: oh i just thought let's get this weaver in the city to make it and hop on his chocobo to get it to them..... oh wait they have to run....he'll never make it in time!

The point of the Grand Companies as supported by ALL of the lore in the game including the lore that Yoshi just put in is to unite the Warriors Crafters and Gathers to build a Great army.Guys, the Empire is attacking!

By forcing Crafters and Gatherers to Hit 25 to join they are essentially recanting on all of the lore about GCs up to this point.
For a long time repairing your own gear was incentive enough to level a crafting class, at least for myself and many people I knew. While I agree with your sentiment of trying everything, it's not really fair.
