Casting and spell animations...lackluster?

This is supposed to be a next gen MMO, I realise this is an MMO so can't compare to a single player game but I still expected something more along the lines of this:

Come on SE you can do better than that, in fact you already have.

Wow... this is my first time seeing Ancient Magic in XIV and that... I'm having trouble finding the words. I can't imagine how disappointing that must be for high-level conjurers. I couldn't help but burst out laughing when the poor guy casts flare and the marmot continues to attack him while someone casually runs by in the background only to have the weakest looking spell I've ever seen in a Final Fantasy game finally kill the marmot 20sec later. I'm still laughing so hard it's difficult to type.

Okay... whew. I've composed myself a little. I have to agree that the animations in XIV are certainly disappointing and to that end I do hope they're addressed eventually.
