    Casting and spell animations...lackluster?

    Anyone else feel like the spell animations and casting animations are missing something visually?

    My character just holds his staff and stands there like a moron during the cast time until the last moment where the cast time is over.. then does a slight animation.

    Why arent my hands going out and why aren't there random magical floating particles surrounding me as I cast?

    The elemental nukes are hardly noticeable when cast on enemies.

    The vast majority of animations are lackluster not just casting/spell ones.

    One of the biggest turnoffs about the battle system is uninspiring animations and spell effects.

    A lot of the weaponskills are the same motion too :\

    The only cool ones I've seen are Arrow Helix and that PUG move that is Hadoken or something.

    Agreed with all the posts above... This is one of the parts that made the game feel a bit boring.

    Another boring part is the armour design, but SE noticed this and started making cool looking armours. Hopefully they will start adding more eye candy animation after they add in more contents for this game.

    Agree completely.

    During Beta I was so underwhelmed with the animations that I assumed they were merely "placeholders" for release.

    I was pretty disappointed to see they were left unchanged at release.

    I understand the cap will be raised eventually and more impressive effects might be included for higher tier spells, but SE should seriously consider revamping the low level spells at some point.

    Fully agree on all points here. Some of the skill animations are great, but they shouldnt repeat the same animation for every Lancer or Gladiator skill (except Howling Vortex for Gladiators). Now magic in general could use some visual improvements, especially the attack spells.

    Personally I think Yoshi-P and his team should look towards Playstation 1 to 2 era Final Fantasy games for spell animation inspiration. Final Fantasy XIII also had a similar problem...but that was supposed to be a really fast battle system, so I understand the concession there.

    Glad I'm not alone in this, because it seemed like the topic of animations was never mentioned in polls or letters from the producer, am I wrong?

    All battle visuals and sound effects are incredibly dismal. For a company that should pride itself on the aesthetics of their games, SE sure did f*** up in FFXIVs combat department.

    Definitely one of the low points of the battle system. Everything just looks and feels so weak and under-powered.
