Yeah, I personally think it's a mistake. The armory system was one of the most well-received components of FFXIV when it launched. However, without knowing all the details of how the armory system with work with the job system, and how they will co-exist, I can't be too judgmental just yet. Not only that, but I'll be happy to be proven wrong if this job system turns out to be a worthy addition.

Life pigeonholed me into breathing
Based on how the companies are set up now? I want to choose my company based on what i want, not based on my class.
All companies should offer the same equipment for all classes, the only difference in weapons armor should be how they look.
Example LNC weapon:
The Maelstrom (Limsa Lominsa): weapon style nautical maybe a trident
The Order of the Twin Adder (Gridania): weapon style natural overtones
The Immortal Flames (Ul'dah): weapon style gritty and bulky
Something of that nature at least.

Add in the fact that you can be say PUG and GLD as your main jobs. Do you follow Cobra Commander and work on your punch arts or do you stay in Ul'Dah to do that stabby thing or do you just say screw the classes I could get gear for I'm going to Limsa Lominsa to be a pirate? If you want to be a pirate(Maelstrom is totally pirates) you don't get gear but even if you wanted gear you can only get it for one of your classes in this hypothetical. Even if they don't release good company gear, you shouldn't have to worry about it when you sign your character's soul away.

You are playing a video game... thats as limited and structured as it gets...
You want absolute freedom... Its called real life
no one asked for absolute freedom let alone implied it... nor do i think you even know what absolute freedom is, seeing as you back it up with "real life".

I know... Im not arguing against your point... and I'm not gonna argue the perception of freedom versus truly being free
I'm just saying what some people considered being pigeonholed, others would call structure. In Super Mario Brothers on NES, Mario was pigeonholed into running in one direction (right ->)
But I do understand the need for some control over our gameplay... But I just think having us making a choice (in a company) and having us be accountable for and reap the benefits of that choice doesn't have to be a bad thing...
It all just depends on your perspective
