Eh, in my experience a lot of people who do really bad DPS still manage to avoid things and do mechanics fine. A lot of people doing poor dps do so because they just don't grok the rotation, and, further, don't KNOW they're doing it wrong because no one has told them otherwise and it's not always super obvious what the rotation should be (black mages especially, as their rotations are a bit less obvious, in general--like it's pretty counter intuitive that you'd not bother using thunder procs during enochian because of the threat of enochian falling off and it messing up your entire rotation).
In my own runs I've seen the underperforming DPS survive to the failed check most of the time.
I mean, if they're just bad at EVERYTHING, well, then, it's your PF and at that point you can just be like 'listen you keep messing up mechanics, and I'm sorry but I'm going to need to replace you'. Which is another advantage of making your own.
