^^ Most feedback before the buff was overwhelmingly asking for the job to focus more on the pet aspect. You know, summoners - > summons - > pet management - > increased pet interaction, ect... The opposite is what occured.

It feels like we're Marksmanship Hunters from WoW, where the pet is simply something that adds to our DPS a little bit aaaaaaaaaaand that's it.
I don't mind it, but i did wish our summons meant a bit more. Also, a lot have mentioned it including myself, but please....Dreadwyrm Trance, it visually sucks.
Pets account for 30% of your overall dps. If you wanted to make that number shoot even higher, up to you 50%, then they would have to make pet management much more difficult so that players cant just turn on their pet and do half of their damage automatically.
The way it is right now we already get a lot of damage for how little we have to manage them and its silly to want more for the sake of sticking to past Summoner conventions. This isn't FF11, this is FF14 and a lot of people are satisfied with what we have currently and suggesting random changes just because they sound cool disregards those people.
I don't know why people keep saying we want summons like final fantasy 11. I mean lets look at other games then
Aion has cool summons that evolve and get grander as you become a better spirit master, Lineage II has amazing looking summons that serve a use and look cool doing it, Blade & Soul has only one summon that is visually amazing to watch attack things and work with you. Heck black desert has a shadow wolf that rips things a part and looks menacing and awesome looking and you can even draw the wolf into yourself and go berserk on monsters. All these games can produce visually appealing pets in an mmo space and keep them fun and needed.
So every other game can create and produce visually appealing and effective summons and this game can't? Yeah...

I'd be okay if the current SMN became Necromancer with a focus on DoTs, plagues, and changed the pets to become spirits, skeletons, zombies, and other horrors. I'd be perfectly fine with that. Then implement SMN as a new job with an actual focus on real summoning.
Or give us Puppetmaster for a big focus on the pet.
Or give us Beastmaster again for that nice axe-and-claw action.
SMN is a fine enough job as it is, but it doesn't feel like a summoner at all. For example, Ifrit has his own summoning action icon. Garuda and Titan are just Carbuncle since they just made the old spells summon the egis. You can tell how little they actually care.

That's kinda what Thaumaturge's (NPC's) do. Or Black Mage's (they summoned Diabolos). Either or, that's something the lore has already made impossible for Summoners.
The Allagan Mages did not summon Primals. They summoned the Egi's to combat the Primals of the Beastmen.
The Allagan Mages did summon Primals to try and dominate the Allagan emopire fearing there power the Allagans executed every Mage that had the knowledge of summoning until there were few Mages with the knowledge of summoning until their were only a few of them left. Afterwards the last Summoners died off and the Art of Summoning was lost to history until the Y'mhitra and the Sons of Saint Coinarch decided to ressurect it.

This is correct, THM would call forth Voidsent which i'm sure Diabolos is included in that list though with lore now anything could be a primal. Allagan didn't summon primals but rather capture and harnessed them. They are still bound by the same rules as current summoners, finite egi and silly trances.
On the subject of lore though, I wish people would stop pretending their is a rule book set in stone that the devs have consult before they add anything too the game. They can do and will do anything they want then write the lore to go along with it.

Summoner is not a pet job it was orginally a Black Mage that decided to focus on the art of summoning which is how Summoners were born. To make it more of a Summoner SE would have to give us the ability to transform into a unique God/Goddesss embodying Hydealyn in order to keep in line with the lore.
The thing is there is never a time in the summoner storyline in XIV where they say what the mages were. They were just allagan mages that were able to summon primals and then discovered an art to transmute there essence into egi versions. So we don't know if the allagan mages were black mages, white mages or neither of the above.Summoner is not a pet job it was orginally a Black Mage that decided to focus on the art of summoning which is how Summoners were born. In final fantasy III where summoning was first used. The black mage came from the wind crystal and the evoker class that turns to summoner from the water crystal. Adding to that the sage class in III was a master mage and used every type of magic black, white and summoning. So it was more an advanced red mage then a black mage.
