Keybinding to keyboard and gamepad on PS3?

Hello,

I'm currently using the controller for playing and using a keyboard for chatting but can't seem to figure out how to keybind abilities or macros to the keyboard without disabling the controller. Is this possible? To keybind things like potions or emotes/macros to the keyboard but keep using the controller for abilities and movement?

There are limits to what can be keybound on PS3. Everything that you can keybind is available by navigating to Keybind under the system menu in the pause screen. I believe that if you cannot find what you want to bind there you cannot do it on PS3. One definite is that you cannot launch actions or macros from the keyboard, only system actions and things like movement. Sadly PS3 is locked out from the full keyboard support available to PC and PS4 players.

Also, if you want to keybind anything to the main alphabet section of the keyboard, you have to disable the feature called "direct chat" (found in the General tab of the Character Configuration window). This feature automatically moves focus to the chat window whenever you start typing. With it enabled (which is the default for PS3 and PS4), I believe you can use keybinds to function keys, extras like Insert, Home, Page Up/Down, etc., and numpad keys, but any keystrokes in the main section of the keyboard are interpreted as chat text. With the feature disabled, you can use whatever keys you want as keybinds, but have to manually move focus to the chat bar before typing chat text.

But, as greyjj pointed out, it may not provide what you're looking for regardless, due to the limited selection of what can have keybinds. This manual page lists the possibilities (and their defaults) if you scroll about half-way down to the "Keyboard Controls" section.

Thanks for the info. Really appreciated. I'm planning on upgrading to a ps4 within the next 6 months. Can you keybind actions on the keyboard with ps4 while using a gamepad? I'd love to be able to use the controller for my abilities and targeting but keybind different potions to the number pad on keyboard.
