A Problem that has followed from FFXI

I'm talking about the crashing from hitting Alt+Tab or the Windows key. The fact that I cannot do this in a game made in 2010 is absurd. I'm very pleased with most of the content being released, but something this small being so problematic is silly. Square shuns the use of Third Party software, but third party software allows for small problems like that to be repaired.

If we're not allowed to use these third party softwares, then can we at least have a fix for this? I understand that this game was developed with the PS3 in mind moreso than the PC, but that shouldn't mean that the PC cannot act as a normal PC game. Exiting FFXIV while not closing the game should not cause the game to crash. Please take this request into consideration. I'm honestly not sure if it's been touched up on, but it certainly should be.

This is really the only gripe I have with the game so far. Otherwise, good work with turning the game around. I'm really ecstatic for the PS3 release.

I Alt+Tab all the time and it works fine.

Of course I should have stated that this was in Full Screen mode. My apologies. Windowed Alt+Tab works fine, but not all of us play in windowed mode.

I must be confused. I am pretty sure I am not in windowed mode. I set my game up right at launch and just recently came back. If I am in windowed mode, I can't tell the difference - the game takes up the entire screen (there is no visible window).

You are most likely using third party software, or are just really, really, REALLY lucky. Every single person I have come across has encountered this exact same problem, and it's unfortunate. A bunch of my friends and I use Ventrillo and other forms of communication whilst playing. Or we want to look something up on YG/Eorzeapedia, we really cannot do that unless a) we open the game up from steam or b) we play in windowed mode, which I personally feel takes away from the game.

If your in fullscreen n u don't crash alt tabbing, your using a 3rd party app or script..lol..
More to the point, your not really in fullscreen, your in a borderless windowed mode, which still gives u the performance hit.
Yes, please, they neeed to fix this.. Playing in windowed gives me a nasty performance hit.

People been doing this for well over 20 years now and you guys can't manage to program alt tab in fullscreen?
That's like saying your game will support the keyboard but not the mouse....
Who does that?

No, I'm not using third-party programs. I guess I am in windowed mode, as I just checked the options. I don't see any window frame, and it feels the same as full-screen to me. There may be a performance hit as a previous poster said, but it feels like full-screen and allows me to alt-tab.

Alt-tab causes FFXIV to crash on my computer, with some pop-up about a DirectX error.

Alt-tab works fine for me in many other full-screen games, such as Rift.

S-E should fix this. It's one of the many things that makes the game seems like it's still in beta.

This problem is a HUGE issue I have with both Square Enix mmos.

FFXI required a LOT of research from many sites etc and so I was forced to play that in a window. FFXIV is no different. This needs to be fixed ASAP.

There no way to use alt'tab in fullscreen without a 3 party tool which is sad that one guy find how to do it and still 1year later and noting from SE lol. If you really not using anything you one lucky guy.
