Ironically, that was their goal with the specializations. The reality is that the skills given by specializing aren't all that great and you're likely better off just cross-classing skills and sticking to older tried-and-tested rotations.

As of yet, I'm not aware of any recipes which can only be obtained through specializing though I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong on that matter. It all begs the question, what was the real point?
