why is it when i log out my food timer continues???

I can't think of any MMO right now where buff timers stop on log out.

Everquest, Everquest 2, World of Warcraft, RIFT, Starwars Online.

Also, the Chocobo timer we have for companions stops when logged out, or mounted even.
