    Off Globals: Double Up?

Throughout my learnings of dps and moving my damage with each new fight and raid, one thing that has stuck with me for a very long time was to never double up on Off Globals. Reason for this is if you double up on Off Globals, the animation lock will cut into your weapon skill time, thus being a dps loss. The only exception from all that I heard was for Bard since they work differently than a Monk or a Dragoon.

Since I started doing research in the latest Dragoon rotation and optimal Off Global use, I have found more often than not that folks have started to double up on Off Globals. Has something changes to where the animation lock doesn't cut into your weapon skill time? Wont the vast amounts of Skill Speed gear has as of late cut into doubling up?

    Solid reasoning would be appreciated!

Classes with 2.5s gcds can use two, IE BRD and DRG. NIN and MNK have <2.1 GCDs so can't afford to use more than one.

Though note that the casting time for BRD and MCH now stops you from using two effectively and certain skills (such as DRG jumps) have longer animations.

TLDR; It depends on the GCD, cast time and animation lock duration.

as humorless pointed out, its primarily due to the GCD time of the class, and some skills having a longer animation lock than others, short of listing out the skills you can and cannot do it with, best just to trial and error so you see for yourself what works and what doesnt.

For Dragoons, a note of caution is always necessary when trying to weve in Jumps on your GCD timer. While you can fit two in, Animation lock can cause you to miss important dodges and other mechanics.

I'm also eyeing how Dragoon develops with the new emphasis on skillspeed due to its effects on how many Geirskoguls you can use within its set minute recast. We may see a point where it's not effective to use two oGDCs on Dragoon in-between.

While not always optimal, I tend to default to just one unless I'm confident I'm safe enough to use them, or the skills don't effect my movements (Such as jumps)

    Solid info guys thanks!

As a DRG I know the animation lock is a huge deal, and how other abilities like B4B and IR don't have such a strong animation lock as Jump might.

I'll definitely have to experiment around in seeing what works and what doesn't, both on dummies and in the actual EX fights and other end game challenges.

nothing has changed; using two oGCDs other than the jumps for DRG has always been possible without clipping GCD at all; it is ping reliant however. if your ping is a bit worse than average, then you may clip your GCD in some instances. otherwise, with average or better ping, you won't clip a single frame of your GCD with anything other than your jumps.
