    FFXIV for Mac

Hi everyone, so.. I've been google-ing trying to download the mac client of FFXIV. I currently play on my windows desktop, but I'm going away on a trip for several days and I wanted to be able to log in FFXIV on my macbook, and I keep encountering a paywall just to get the mac client.

My question is, do I need to buy the game again... for mac? Even though I already own FFXIV?? If not... how can I download the mac client, so that I can log in with my usual info.

I don't know the details of the download. But I think you need to buy the game (and expansion) again. Go to your mog station and select "add a mac license".

Yes, you would have to buy the game again since the MAC version is considered a separate platform. Also, from the sounds of the forums here, the MAC version is not worth it at the moment. You have to put your settings 6-feet under to get it to run smoothly, if it even will.

Wow.. those are terrible news :'(

I guess I can't play FFXIV on my mac then.. I would play it in low settings, but I'm not willing to buy the game and its expansion again... when I have collectors edition.

It doesn't make sense to me either, cuz its not like I'm planning to make a new account or anything, I just want to play my usual account... and that brings me to the question.. I have the collector's edition on my windows account.. so if I buy the license to play on my mac but not the mac collectors edition, will the CE items be greyed out???

Can you even play the same account???

The collectors edition only needs to be purchased once for your account regardless of the platform. I have seen posts from mac players using a windows emulator or something and getting the game to run smoothly if I read the posts correctly. I think that way bypasses the mac key requirement. Sorry I don't have a better answer.

5 hours ago I would have encouraged you...then I purchased and installed the OS X version myself and I HIGHLY recommend reconsidering.

The OS X version is god awful. I run in bootcamp on this machine and average 60 FPS. The OS X client (wrapper) runs at around 15-20 FPS.

Unless you have a brand new macbook with maximum specs, don't even bother....not to consider the fact that they want to charge you $60 for a half ass wrapper when it's almost industry standard to allow players to download a REAL mac client for FREE.

On a Mac, you can run Boot Camp, requires you to have a copy of windows to install on the partion that you're creating for Boot Camp tho.

And yes: you need to buy a license for every platform you want to play on. I have for Win myself, and only ARR on PS4 as I didn't play too much there after all.
I was considering the Mac-client myself as I figured it would be better to play on the native client, but all the user feedback sugest that you will play better under bootcamp, as they didn't make a native client for mac, they just framed it in a built-in WIN-emulator of sorts.
Hopefully they will give some information on the live letter next week.
But for now: Bootcamp is the way to go, then you can still use your windows copy of the game

Well.. I decided to just play WoW while I'm away... if FFXIV runs well in my husband's low end work laptop.. I might try to do the daily roulette... if not.. I suppose no FFXIV for me...

I mean, I have the Mac client, and by all means I'm running it on the lowest settings to get it to sit around 20-30 FPS, but running the application without purchasing a copy of Windows makes my life easier. $60 for the game, expansion, and 30 days of game time seems a much wiser decision than spending $100 - $150 on Windows.

When I'm not out and about, I play the game on my PC instead.
