Hate to say this, but if it takes you a couple of hours to get to rank 10 solo, you are doing it wrong. If it takes you more than a few hours to get to 20 solo, you are doing it wrong.

I wouldn't say it was easier in FFXIV. Quicker sure, but not easier because getting access to Chocobos in FFXI wasn't difficult, just drawn out. There was no difficulty in acquiring the Gausebit Grass, especially since most people simply bought it from AH, nor any difficulty giving it to the chocobo. Like most things in FFXI it look longer to do but that doesn't mean it was hard.
You guys have the objective perspective powers of a freaking blind turtle...
How cna you get 3000 seals in a DAY if you are new? It involves either getting lucky...leveling at the speed of light...etc etc
Less of a time sink does not make one over the other easier. There was nothing hard about buying some grass and giving it to a Chocobo every 5 hours in a game. Actually it was really dumb and pointless and left no good memories for anyone I ever played FFXI with. It does have a lower level range but the rental Chocobos are going to be slower.People keep comparing personal chocos in XIV to rentals in XI, and they are not the same at all.
Rental:
FFXI: Get to rank 20 and do the choco quest as the OP stated (Takes 4hrs)
FFXIV: walk up to the rental guy and pay the fee to ride it (To my knowledge no quest at all)
Personal:
FFXI: Go through a several week process of carefully feeding your choco, then bread it with other chocos and repeat until you get a High rank on the skill to make it not worthless (Takes literally months)
FFXIV: Get 3000 Seals, doable in a day.
Personal Chocobos is easier to obtain in FFXIV assuming you already have a r45+ class and yes the quests are doable in a day assuming you are that rank but the dungeons themselves are harder than that laughable 1+ month chocobo breeding crap. You also say to have a chocobo that is worth a flip it takes months but that is not what the argument is about, it is about obtaining one period and that does take a month which was silly. There was nothing hard about walk up to an NPC and picking some options it was nothing more than a glorified time sink to give the illusion of content to make some of the FFXI players happy. To obtain a Chocobo whether it be slow or fast all you had to do was bring an egg to an npc and set up a 4 week regimen or visit it once a week.
I pray to God that SE doesn't make the same mistake this time around when giving us Chocobo breeding by giving us that boring stupid crappy system that was in FFXI and give us something more akin to FF7 hands on breeding system where you actually have to use your Chocobo in different ways to build its stats and not just pick an option to talk a long walk or a short walk. Though they have already told us that Chocobos are going to be more than just mounts and we will be able to have them fight along with us so I have a feeling we are getting the hands on Chocobo raising and breeding whenever that comes along that I was talking about.
I understand this but there was so many times someone in my party would leave group or every hour would say "HEY I GOTTA FEED MY CHOCOBO" durka dur, Jeffy likes apples. Then the party would disband because someone would get pissed about it. The quest wasn't well thought out when they made it.Just thought I'd mention "standing around for 5-6 hours" like everyone says was obviously not the intention of the developers. They meant for you to come back and feed it whenever you had time, and slowly nurse it back to health. Players just realized it would only accept one per day and chose to be single-minded about it, parking in Jeuno and doing nothing but waiting an hour to feed it.
It's not a very good design, sure, but the game is old and having everyone stand around was not the intention.

this is not xi.
stop comparing it like everything should be the same.
& you want everything handed to you on a silver latter go play another game.
& if you cant defeat 2 raids, you need to get better and pay attention
These are BASIC mounts... more mounts to come and a bigger choco system in general... If you want a huge time sink and/or difficult quests look elsewhere. As always, they are introducing things in stages and people are too ... well dumb... or impatient to wait for it. The games being reworked as a whole with eyes on the re-release not the present, they're building something bigger and complete.
You're not the center focus of attention despite w/e excuse you may use to cover that fact. We're getting level(Not done balancing level advancement yet, sure they know its way too fast 1-20), quest AND currency requirements on basic mounts in the FIRST stage of implementation (And that's not even counting the fact that personals weren't even suppose to make an appearance in the same patch/time frame as rentable's initially!). Only thing truly missing is the few apparently overrated cut-scenes that were in 11 for comparison. But again... easily and more than likely added down the road to current and future content.
Point is the choco content we got in 11 was EXTREMELY weak, filled with weak lore as well as uninspiring time sink quests that were nothing revolutionary or even the least bit exciting!
