Love that one post! Correcting that indeed the OP was talking about chocobo for rents (not the 'personal' ones) but makes a good point about the comparisons should stop. no one even wondered if we would have a cut scene before being able to rent a chocobo. /cry. what about talking about something everyone would enjoy!

I really want the depth that I've heard about and got to see a little of from FFXI.

But I would rather see Raised chocobos added as hard content, (all the colours and ability's and so on.)
Actually that goes for all areas of content I think. Bit of time/effort = reward, not all just handed to us.

Keeping some level of everything easy to acess for casuals is nice, but we do need a lot more depth then what we seem to be getting for it to feel like any form of FF.

That takes a lot longer to program and most likely is in the works already - at least planned. However, until that complex, long-term system is built, would you prefer to be without chocobos entirely? I think this is a question we forget to ask ourselves sometimes. "If I can't have 100% of what I want, would I prefer to stay at 0% until it's perfect?" Sometimes the answer is yes, but with chocobos, I land on "Absolutely not."

If SE said they were holding back rental and company chocobos, the easy ones, until they could release all chocobos, including raised ones with complex quests and developments, at once - would you gladly walk everywhere for another year or two?

I think we're just getting too anxious to see big updates too fast. I'm just happy to have a bird to ride until they figure out the full mount and chocobo raising systems.

If you do want to elaborate about everything you want for chocobs in the future, I'm trying to get a little guide for SE together in one of my sig links. Feel free to vent. I'm adding whatever ideas people seem to like to the OP.

Company chocobos are just a glorified rental chocobo.

These are the quick-fix mounts that the forums were yelling for. We got what we wanted, so wash the sand out...

The FFXI-style custom chocobo breeding will be implemented at a later date -- Yoshi has already stated this.

I've looked at it this way:

Chocobo training in 11 - You have a chocobo you raise now and have to wait a month before it's usable.

Chocobo training in 14 - Your chocobo starts usable and you raise it while it's usable.

Convenience-wise I like it in 14 better, and most people didn't even bother with personal chocobos in 11. You had to remember to check on it every day and it was REALLY easy to screw yourself over with getting the quest for the whistle to summon it. Happened to me, had to raise another chocobo and wait another month in order to have my own to ride.

    @ Anonymoose.

    That was my point "added".

I would in some ways prefer waiting for PS3 for all the harder content like that, and lots of story to be added and them just fixing the systems while its free and laying a lot of groundwork for several main story areas and lots of depth for it.

FFXIV: walk up to the rental guy and pay the fee to ride it (To my knowledge no quest at all)

    Personal:
FFXI: Go through a several week process of carefully feeding your choco, then bread it with other chocos and repeat until you get a High rank on the skill to make it not worthless (Takes literally months)
FFXIV: Get 3000 Seals, doable in a day.
Was going to say this, XI quest was just for the right to rent a chocobo...something in XI you get without even doing anything aside from hitting rank 10.

Getting a personal chocobo took alot of time, and even then had limited use.

3000 seals for a basic chocobo, there will still be breeding and other chocobo growth activties which may or may not be more involved than the XI version. Yoshi-P already stated it.

You are comparing getting 'lv1 chocobo' on XIV to getting 'lv99 chocobo' in XI and saying "lol XIV is easier lol". As far as we know, this initial personal chocobo may as well be worthless when mounted battles are implemented.

Yeah, because sitting in Jueno for 6 hours was really fun. Chocobo Raising is being considered, so let's hold off on that discussion. Right now we're getting transportation to hold us off of using Anima. I'm sure it'll be similar to other FF games where you can breed slightly faster Chocobo and such to make up for the "easily" obtained Chocobo.

Or we can just bitch about every little aspect of the game and how it's less tedious than FFXI, that works too.
