Comparing The Chocobo Quests in 11 and 14

    Final Fantasy 11:

    Minimum Rank - 20

Talk to NPC Brutus and trade a Gausebit Grass to the chocobo. The chocobo will not accept the grass at this time. Come back on another game day and try to feed it again. The chocobo will still not accept the grass. Come back on the third day and the chocobo will now accept the grass. You must now feed the chocobo 3 more times in 3 different game days to complete the quest and gain ability to ride the chocobo.
    Final Fantasy 14

Minimum Rank - 22 for Company

Join a Grand Company in one of the three cities. You must obtain 3,000 credits to obtain the ability to ride a chocobo. To obtain 3,000 credits you must do the initial quests and the dungeons to earn the necessary credits. Additionally you must also advance past recruit stage in one of the companies in order to qualify for the chocobo.

Synopsis: For first glance it appears that the required effort and time to obtain the ability to ride a chocobo from both games is not only about the same. But it appears to be more difficult in 14. Granted this would be from a new player's perspective, but even if you had 3,000 credits saved up, you still need to do the next set of quests to obtain the next rank above recruit to qualify for the chocobo.

Additionally while it may be must faster to get rank 10 in FF14 as opposed to level 20 in FF11, you wouldn't be able to earn the required credits in a company as a rank 10 player. You would still have to get up to 45 in order to enter the Darkhold.

Conclusion: From a new player perspective, getting a chocobo in 14 will take more time and effort than in 11.

People keep comparing personal chocos in XIV to rentals in XI, and they are not the same at all.

    Rental:
FFXI: Get to rank 20 and do the choco quest as the OP stated (Takes 4hrs)
FFXIV: walk up to the rental guy and pay the fee to ride it (To my knowledge no quest at all)

    Personal:
FFXI: Go through a several week process of carefully feeding your choco, then bread it with other chocos and repeat until you get a High rank on the skill to make it not worthless (Takes literally months)
FFXIV: Get 3000 Seals, doable in a day.

    Exactly.

    FFXI:
Get to rank 20 and do the chocobo feeding quest.

    FFXIV:
    Get to rank 10:

    Conclusion: FFXIV is easier.

I don't see why being easier than FFXI is an issue.

Does everything that SE add HAVE to be harder than FFXI? lol....

They should just start charging everyone the monthly fee and I bet people would stop comparing FFXI to FFXIV and just quit.

No offense to OP, i was just venting a bit after reading one too many FFXI vs FFXIV posts.

It took a heck of a lot longer and a lot more effort to reach level 20 (about half a month and dependent on group availability) in FFXI than it did to reach 10 in FFXIV (a couple of hours solo).

Or you could do some of the other quests they're coming out with.

No. But they defiantly need to make it a more engaging experience.
Especially if they make it easier.

To be honest, I'm not against this new 'quest', but I'd prefer it take a little more effort and commitment to complete. Otherwise, I don't feel that accomplished.

Because after literally after a year of people bitching about how ridiculous it is that we need transportation, how long it takes to get everywhere, and how stupid it is that there are no chocobos - they wanted them to be easily accessible. SURPRISE!

Why is this a shock to everyone? If complaints about something are universal, they get "Fixed." You don't get to choose what fixed means, and I think that's something the playerbase needs to understand. When you ask for CHANGE, you don't automatically get your best case scenario - when you ask for CHANGE you're admitting that you'd rather take the risk of getting something you don't want in exchange for not having to adapt to something you've already decided you don't like.

Yoshida-san's team is giving people what they asked for.

I'm sure breeding will be intricate and difficult if/when it ever comes around. You wandered around the desert for hours for a YEAR. You've EARNED your HANDOUT.

I don't remember anyone asking for a handout. We where just asking for the implementation and I think many of us assumed there would be a challenging chocobo based quest involved.

Technically these still arent the same since these chocobo are Company issued, pre trained Chocobo. Also it may not be doable in a day. We have no idea how many seals people under 50 (and there are alot) will be for completing caravan escorts or lower level added grand company quests. I'm level 33, and will most likely have to put in a decent amount of effort to snag those seals.

Even then, not everyone rank 45+ has beaten the Darkhold, so they may not have enough either.

Not only that, but dont forget that the XIV chocobo system will eventually go deeper (both breeding and chocobo based combat).

True but they aren't really "personal" they are "company" chocobos. FFXI personal chocobos were much more involved.
