Obviously it was a bug but compared to how dark performs in relation to other jobs. It was a nerf, and i say NERF because the actual definition of nerf i posted above "the bug fix" made it less effective which means nerf. So what if the ability wasn't meant to do that, doesn't change the fact that it was good for the job and was a good source of damage.
SE doesn't want us doing it that way, so i do not mind. I do mind the fact that it broke two of our skills however.Obviously it was a bug but compared to how dark performs in relation to other jobs. no matter. it was a bug that allowed us to save one dark arts worth of MP, in the grand scheme of things it's not so big.
Does the reduction of damage hinder the ability to tank? If not then it doesn't really matter. Tanks aren't supposed to output high DPS. That's what DPS are for.
This is why a lot of other developers will put up a public test server and have players test changes before they go live. SE refuses to do this for some reason. If they did do it though, I can guarantee you all these issues would have been discovered long before the release of the job. There's a subset of players that literally live for finding things like this.
Two abilities that cost a ton of MP to help mitigate damage during pulls are completely useless at the moment. Dark Passenger no longer applies it's blind, nor it's increased damage beyond the first target. Abyssal Drain no longer applies the HP from hitting a target beyond the first target. So yes, this does add some hindrance to out ability to tank via more damage being taken during pulls that could be avoided.
It would be like when you cast Bane, it only went to one other enemy. Yes you could manually spread your dots, or just go purely single target, but it does effect your total ability to perform.
No, that is pretty big. The bug fix was a 50 - 100 DPS loss in general to us.
To get almost the same effect, we'd have to blow literally 50% of our MP in a single rotation, and clip our GCD unless we have Blood Weapon going.
It's a hit in more ways than just 1. If you're not noticing, then you either don't have carve & spit yet, or you weren't quite paying attention to the damage you could do through using a Dark Arts on 2 abilities, ontop of the MP you would save in the process.
We weren't cheesing content with it. Our DPS wasn't through the roof like a Warriors is. If anything, that bug put us on a fair grounds in terms of DPS, and made our MP to Damage conversion so much more tolerable. (TP aside)
No matter how anyone puts it, bug fix or not, it was an indirect nerf to our overall damage, and MP usage.
