This is how it was back in Lineage 2 and all the early games with no separate faction groups. Player Killers were abound and it was chaos to just walk around at times. I miss it so much....I'd like to make a suggestion from someone who greatly enjoys pvp, and even better pvp at its truest form. (open world pvp)
Recently people are complaining about hunts again like they did when they first came out and I've been thinking of something but never really asked anyone for their opinion, how would people feel about open world pvp?
Picture rolling up with your FC and getting rid of those pesky early pullers who tease you in shout and destroying them?
How about that pvp gear you have that does nothing but look pretty, wouldn't you rather smash some skulls with it?
It's a fun idea I've been thinking of, obviously won't ever happen since people rather RP than pvp but coming from a pvp background I'd enjoy it.
If open PvP was introduced that is fine if they open a server built for it. However if I have to worry about being attacking doing PvE content, I'd be dropping my subscription cus I have zero interest in PvP.
But the best drama comes from hitting unsuspecting players pveing :/
Life's a tease.
Obvious attempt to troll, and I've seen better.
Do not forget you too can be hunted just as well.
In fact, I would purposefully create a linkshell network designed to hunt PKers that target the weak or unsuspecting, and hunt them viciously. Just like A/S ranks. I would report griefers to the LS and actively hunt them. And enjoy it.
It's fine if you like PvP. I like it too. But wanting it purely to cause drama or grief is precisely reason why you don't (and shouldn't) get it. If that's what you truly want, I'd suggest a different game. You would not be welcome here.
Hard to see how I'm trolling when you just described the ideal situation I'd look for in open world pvp and agreed with it, guess we both want the same thing.Obvious attempt to troll, and I've seen better.

Wrong. You clearly said "the best drama comes from hitting unsuspecting players pveing"
Do correct me if I'm wrong, but that sounds like that's what you WANT to do. If so, I find that pretty deplorable. But of course, that's not what you meant, right? Lol. Nah, open world PvP for everyone, to solve the not-actually-big problem of rude/impatient players engaging in the hunts! It's super-effective! . . . Open world PvP wouldn't fix the hunt. It would kill it. Why? Because every hunt mob suddenly becomes one big bait in an area-wide trap.
Let's look at the bigger picture here: Consider the PvP maps, and the (few but effective) hiding places. Then consider the layout of each PvE area. One is designed with PvP in mind, and the other purely is not. Consider natural threats and the positions of them. What about fates? Gathering nodes? Aetheryte camps. Sightseeing vistas. Leves. Quest locations. . . None of that is designed with the possible complication of player-based danger in mind. And if people had to watch their back just to go out and attune an aetheryte, or hunt a daily B rank, not only would people stop calling them out, they'd actively stop hunting. The domino effect would only begin there.
Now sure, the answer could be a PvP server. And I might even be inclined to check it out. But trying to fix issues with one type of content by just adding another is simply, poor in practice. Lest we forget the hunt imbalance essentially had to be fixed with a little thing called Nexus light farming. (Yes, SE, some of us did read between those lines and see it for what it was.)

Asides from the obvious potential for griefing and drama that comes hand in hand with open world PvP, there is one other reason they will most likely never do this and that is the abilities and jobs were designed and balanced for PvE. This is the reason their are separate PvP abilities as well as different functionality for some PvE abilities in PvP. To try to suddenly mash these abilities and functions together so that players would have access to both since they could at any moment be engaging in PvE or PvP is something that SqEnix probably does not see as justified development time and resources.
Don't get me wrong, it feasibly could be done but I don't see it happening anytime soon.
Final Fantasy players in general don't like "world pvp" so this won't fly so well... especially in the JP community.

Considering the imbalances in the existing pvp system, not to mention SE's philosophy towards MMOs, an open-world pvp is exceedingly unlikely.
To be fair though, Frontlines is proving very popular on the japanese servers. I don't think world pvp will be considered, but perhaps something more open than an instanced battleground is possible.
That said, I do wish there was a pvp option for FCs to use for friendly competitions, rather than being restricted to GCs. Perhaps the airships FCs build can be flying fortresses, because who doesn't want to raid another FC's guild house, destroy their shit, and spraypaint the walls? This is of course a pipe dream, but it's a fun little thought experiment.
