    Saw this done before. You know the result? No one even bothers walking to that area ever, the game soon died after that. You can't change something that wasn't built from the basic. When the game wasn't advertised as a pvp-focused, it only attracts pve players and the players are those who decide whether one idea is effective or not.

    I doubt the death of the whole game was due to an apparently totally unused optional open world PvP area. I can guarantee you that being able to walk to the flats wouldn't kill FFXIV.

    Obviously it's not solely because of the addition of pvp, however it can affect the whole game in a negative way that you won't expect. I'm not saying that it will kill the game, but at the same time I won't say it will add any new flavour to the game either. If I was in a developer's shoes, I wouldn't put in such an unpredictable element into and already stable work without clear indication that it will bring positive outcome. Can you guarantee that the players will like the pvp or it will just be an empty area anyways? Unlike classes and jobs where you can tweak/adjust at will, I don't think you can very conveniently add and remove pvp element without losing a substantial player base.

    One of the things that I love about this game is that we're all on the same side. It's us against the bad guys, and there isn't anything in the story that pits us against each other (except that little bit of storyline for the Frontline, for those who simply must have their PvP).

    This is why the community is so great here--everyone has their own resource nodes so there's no competition. When you sell on the AH, it's all very anonymous because no one knows your Retainers' names. People work together because XP is shared, and not reduced when in in a party. It's a cooperative game and the lore supports that.

    Let's keep it that way, shall we?

    P.S. You can check out WoW on a PvP server and see this mechanic in action, and judge for yourself how well it works for world bosses/targets. Hint: it doesn't.

    no, this wouldn't help the situation in the least.

    fact it would make the situation even worse, and open up to griefing and spawn camping.

    Actually, maybe not "servers".
    Picture that, you and your friend play the game together for a long time. But he loves PvP, so when a PvP server opens, he'll probably want to transfer.
    So, either you won't play together anymore, or you'll have to transfer to an open world PvP server even though you don't like it.

    BUT, what about PvP instances. For example, we have 2 instances for new zones to decrease population. What if they create a third instance, but with open world PvP. It will be on the same server, and you can choose a non-PvP zone so that you won't be bothered.

    Everybody wins.

    But i doubt it will ever happen, what little pvp content we have in the game alrdy is imo extremely boring and bad.

    In wow, open world pvp absolutely sucked, because there were people who would actively go out of their way to kill any lowbies they could find. People rarely went out to find people of their own level, and did it just to troll the opposite faction, and when the people who were their level showed up, they ran off.

    Lets not bring that here.

    Except they don't, that "3rd instance" will be a ghost town, guaranteed. Maybe not for the first days, until people realise there is no reason whatsover to go to that pvp instance and then the PvPers will have no one to grief. Then they will not bother with it also.

    Which will turn into a waste of time for SE to have created and a waste of money for server space tohost that "3rd instance".

    One thing FFXIV has shown, players take the path of least resistance for everything.
