    PLD New Skills

    Fellow Paladins,

What's your take on the new PLD skills ? I'm only 59 so far so I can't comment on Royal Authority yet (although I honestly have a very good idea of what it is).

I will, however share mine... after editing this post, because, you know, forum limitations.

    Please share your obervations !

    EDIT :

    Here are mine :

Sheltron : My blocking rates weren't that much of a problem, but the MP recovered (about 10% of my max MP) makes it great to use as soon as possible, which I usually do in conjunction with Circle of Scorn (every 30 seconds), or if my better cooldowns aren't available.

Goring Blade : Boy, how great did it feel to finally have an alternate 3-part combo. The DoT duration is great, too, which gives you ample time to reapply it while doing other things. That on its own makes it awesome, plus the fact that Riot Blade now only consumes 60 TP and still regenerates MP makes this combo an instant favorite. Combining Riot Blade and Sheltron helps you maintain MP for Flash spamming, and also for casting a Clemency here and there.

Divine Veil : I would have liked a slightly shorter recast (I don't think 120 seconds would have been OP), that being said, on a 8-man party with 2-5 persons in melee range at most times, this makes it an interesting cooldown to have. I'm not entirely sure on who the 10% maximum HP barrier applies though. The tooltip says "the caster", but is it Divine Veil's caster, or the healer's caster ? Obviously this make a huge difference and I haven't really paid enough attention to test it.

Clemency : A decently powerful spell, but with drawbacks, such as it's huge MP cost, to make sure we don't abuse it (after all, PLD is not a healer). I usually use it on the healer after the party's taken a huge hit to make sure he/she's gonna have time to finish casting, I suppose it also helps while soloing. Regardless, I was hyping it a bit but I'm not necessarily disappointed with it either. I'm not entirely sure it helps with enmity (can't say I have much hate issues to begin with), and I'd like to know on what stat does it scale ?

EDIT 2 : So I hit 60 and got Royal Authority, therefore...

Royal Authority : It's as I expected. A WS that does more damage and allows us to no longer be afraid of stealing hate when MTing due to the fact we now have more options than Rage of Halone Combo. On its own, it gives it purpose, but I can't say much else. However, I'll probably have fun trying to raise my dmg as high as possible once I'm at least 170+. I know PLD is a tank, but why not have some fun nonetheless ?

Sheltron was a much needed ability to our arsenal. I use it liberally and hate not having it in low dungeons now Goring Blade, while it's our highest potency, I find difficult to weave in at my current ilvl because threat seems to be an issue with dps in law gear. Divine Veil.. phenomenal. In heavy aoe fights, is a godsend. Another ability I hate being without. Clemency is by far my favorite though. I use it all the damn time. Great heal, builds some decent threat and has saved multiple parties I've been in. Royal Authority.. love the animation, but like GB, I can't weave it in as much as I'd like. Amazing for off tanking though.

Sheltron - Great Little Cooldown, if only they made Shield Swipe OGD or increase the time you can use it, it will be even better.
Goring Blade - A good DPS boost, will be easier to weave into combo once you get better gear and dont have to worry about losing hate from more geared DPS.
Divine Veil - Great cooldown for AOE phases, would have loved if it didnt need a heal to proc, and activate on button press instead.
Clemency - Amazing Heal for Emergency / Soloing, can't use too often because of the MP cost.
Royal Authority - A great addition to OT, finally you dont to worry about using RoH combo while off tanking and stealing aggro from the MT.

Tanking is a job, DPSing is a science and Healing is an art.
If the Tank dies, it's the Healer's fault. If the Healer dies, it's the Tank's fault. If the DPS dies, it's their own damn fault.

Thanks for the info ! It's not like the weapon isn't what I usually upgrade first when available, but it does add yet another reason to do so.

I love Shelton, the name not so much, makes it sound like it's gonna let you block magic or something, which would be nice too. But the move is great, I always hated that bulwark was an almost guaranteed block but not 100% which made it unreliable for blocking big hits.

Goring blade, a welcome addition, nice for soloing and will be good later for dps.

Divine veil, kind of disappointed, I thought it would make any cures cast on you give an adloquium like effect for the next 30 seconds when I first glimpsed it, thought it would be a move to make our own cure have a use. But past that disappointment it's an ok move.

Clemency, love it, we need more moves to make use of our MP outside of flash, I kind of would have liked a damage spell like banish too but this will do for now.

Royal authority, don't have yet but it's basically just damage instead of enmity, seems silly to combo off of savage rather than riot blade since it's obviously something you're going to be using when you don't want enmity but I guess it also makes it easier to weave in without losing enmity as much while MTing.

Finally. A thread to break the drk an war train. Currently at level 57 and so far, i'm liking the progression for PLD. While the other 2 try to outdps the other, we're just here trying to make the healer's life less stressful by being a sub healer when the situation goes a bit... Interesting. I'm very excited to get to level 58 and get my healing spell.

Edit... Royal authority branching off savage blade is actually a good idea. You'll never go wrong with it. When you do SB, you can then check if you are leading the threat board and be comfortable enough to just end it with a dps finisher. Else, halone.

I agree with this. On bosses, a threat check after savage blade makes things a bit more interesting. Can I contribute to the burn phase? RA. Do I need more threat? Halone. As I get more gear I'm noticing I can weave in GB consistently and RA every other combo now. When threat is a non issue and I can jump to sword oath for a few minutes, I can crit on the upwards of 2100 with RA with FoF up. It's glorious

The PLD changes have me so excited; can't wait to level it again after I finish my DRG.

OP to address your question about Divine Veil, I believe the shield is based on the PLD's HP, not the one casting the heal.

I had hoped it's the case, but since I haven't hit 60 yet and did testing, I didn't pay worthwhile attention.
