I played ffxi for a couple years. I was really addicted to it. I never really was in parties much. Started as thf and pretty much soloed to 30 to unlock bst. I would get an occasional invite then kicked when I dinged since I would bring others xp down. The economy was pretty interesting. I was far more interested in that. I pretty much maxed all my crafting skills out before I quit. The gear was usually valuable and if not I could desynth and get valuable materials back, it was a great system. I started playing WoW hoping for the same type of crafting experience, but ugg it was horrible. 95% of the time drops were much better than crafted items.
The crafting in this game was definately a huge step up from WoW and so was the mini game. I enjoyed it much more in beta when rapid was a valid option. I read crafting classes were going to be treated like full on classes. I was excited for that. It seemed poorly implemented when I started throwing stones in storied battle sequences, that was not very cool. It seems high quality gear has the most value but there is no real way to find it without checking lots of players retainers in the ward.
Everything in this game is so plentiful it is hard to create value out of things. I was shocked at such high drop rates for useful items. Getting to max level crafting is more about taking the time to spam standard than getting the items necessary from other players or farminig it.
So far I enjoy the game. Sure things could be improved but I still enjoy it.
