They are here to make the most money possible. These changes that are happening is by the players if you have not noticed. We tell them what we want and they design it. That's what those polls were for. Then from there it's trial and error on what they come up with. Do I believe this game is currently easy in terms of content, absolutely. However, that doesn't mean it's easy for others. Some players still can't kill the big three NM's, Ogre, and Batraal. We are not even capped level yet I dont know what you're expecting. Once ps3 comes they might raise the level cap with much more difficult content but we'll just have to wait and see.

I will tell you this though that I too played 11 for 7 years and it was the best years of gaming as well as the worst years of my real life. Of course I was a lot younger back then, but those 21-24 hour NM's ruined it for me after doing them day in day out. That to me is not an accomplishment IMO. That was all bs luck or whoever had the best claim bot at the time. Ugh, thinking about it irritates me lol. Now, doing COP promys for the first time.... WOW.. That was the most fun and challenge I've had in an mmo up to that point. I felt so accomplished when I finished it. But after that, it was back to the same BS again... Grind, 21-24 NM's. Point is, I don't want this to be like 11 at all. If I did I would go back and play that. I want this to be 14! If they want to add aspects of 11 to it then I'm cool with that but the minute they add 21-24 hour NM's I'm done again unless they have alternative ways of getting the same gear from it.

Doing this from my iPad so I probably misspelled a lot from auto correct but I like the direction this game is going in and I'm not asking anyone to agree with me. This is just my 2 cents.

P.S. Except for certain aspects of the materia system but that's another story
Yeah same for me, the 21-24 NMs killed it for me. I tried to get this ying yang robe for years and got so unlucky in getting the drop. I ended up having to put my alarm clock at 4AM just not to lose ToD and all. At this point, I thought it was just ridiculous and left FFXI for a more 'casual' game which did not dictate my playing time. So far, FFXIV is heading in the good direction for me although it seems to me that it is taking a lot from WoW-type of gaming, which is mostly for cattering to a broader audience than FFXI used to have. Mix-matching both FFXI-type and WOW-type can be good but will still remain an 'old gen' MMO. What would put it to next gen is actual live content:

I was thinking of having player (LS) owned towns were we could build our houses and all until a big fat ass dragon or even the empire could atatck and destroy (only when enough people of said town are logged on so they can try and defeat the enemy to minimize the damages on the town), leaving the village in ruins (literally and thus leading to less of an advantage like destroy the 'LS' bank mking it unavailable) and would have to be rebuild by crafters and gatherers.

what games need now is dynamic content that affects the shape of the world! Comparing to FFXI or wow-like will just end up in a old gen MMO. The devs and us need to think outside the box for helping creating the next gen MMORPG.

Sooooo, FFXIV should just become FFXI-2? FFXIV should use the concepts that made FFXI successful, not copy and paste it.

In FFXI, keeping the cap at 75 before they messed it up by uncapping was that content from the original to the expansions were all still played, because of story and actual great items to get from them. From the day Sea/Sky was released to the day levels became uncapped, people always did these events, and for some, took a very long time to get the item you want.

Just using my memory, but before cap, people did BCNM's, KSNM's, Sea, Sky, Dynamis, Limbus, Assault, Besieged, Einherjar, ENM's, ZNM's, and HNM's. By not raising the cap and making gear hard to obtain and have you making long term goals, this is how I want FFXIV to be setup. I want events that I will still be doing years later, this is what was successful about FFXI.

I don't want events that made FFXI successful in FFXIV, I want it's concepts and ideals. This statement is debatable, but this is how I look at it, if you have people still fighting over the same Dragon for years almost everyday to get a few items off him, you made your content right. If you have people doing the same events for years even though new content comes in, you made your content right.

    Agree 100% with Aenarion's post.

This is not ffxi, it's ffxiv. I played ffxi for 5 years and loved and hated every second of it. I quit it for a reason. SE is not looking for ffxi players to move to this new game, they are looking at all mmo players to switch to this style, that is why it is different.

If you want this to be exactly as ffxi I think you will be dissapointed and you should probably quit now.

I hope people stop posting on this ridiculous topic and accept FFXIV for what it is: a NEW GAME.

I adored FFXI but i quit last year after around 3 or more years playing. I duoed almost everything with my husband and we achieved a whole lot considering we where on our own, we got into a couple of endgame LS and stayed up until 6am twice a week for a whole year doing dynamis...i got the gear but i was tired out from it. I loved duoing and NM's where fun and challenging and even managed to do a couple we thought where too hard before we left. FFXIV is not FFXi but it could take some of the good points and leave the bad, the story the atmosphere and immersion was better for me, the elitism and the being owned by Linkshell got on my nerves, thats why i never bothered much. This game just needs a little more hardmode but not to the ridiculous...i dont like things so easy and prefer a challenge and i feel if given the right direction it could be done. I just want a challenge and good story and gamplay and to feel some achievement when i get something...agreed too much in here is a tad easy.

Well to be fair, FFXIV has been getting harder as time has gone on.

*Reduction of party size from 15 to 8
*Battle changes made people actually have to learn their classes to perform well, not to mention actually having to manage MP and enmity
*Thaums can no longer solo most of the big NMs.

The game is still easy yes but again, it has been getting harder over time.

Oh yeh i have seen great improvements since the Alpha that was one of the reason i left FFXI, ive been here a while now and have seen numerous changes, if i had to start from scratch i think i would very happy with what has changed. Casual is good for some and nobody should be struggling because they have no help or you need 15 people or whatever, but things are changing like you said and i am here to stay so hopefully things will get better.

    Rutelor is right.

There is a huge portion of FFXI players that aren't in their teens and 20s anymore and now have RL responsibilities.

FFXIV allows those of us who don't have time to play as much to still enjoy a FF MMO and kudos to Yoshi and Tanaka for sticking with that vision.

The problem is that there are a large group of FFXI players who still want to play hardcore, and FFXI no longer gives them that experience thanks to Abyssea. So they come to FFXIV demanding it.

As much as FFXIV needs fixing, the same could be said about FFXI.

Feels like this is said more times than nessecary.

I agreed with your parts about bringing back XI grind parties, I loved them too.
    And Dynamis/Nyzul/Beseiged/Sea/Sky etc.

Unfortunately: To compete with modern MMOs, they need quests which offer exp rewards, because now some people feel this is the 'norm' and without it 'this game is doomed.' Which could be said about a lot of other 'norms'

Just give it some time, XI was the culmination of multiple years work before it was anything like what we remember of it. You spoke of the level cap being 75. Some people may remember it as 50, and now it's up to 90. When XIVs cap is inevitably raised, will future people remember anything about what it was, or will they think of how awesome it IS and how better it can get?

Also: The first two words, and the last one.
