DPS check Bismark - SMN sucks?

I am just returned to FFXIV and hit 60 yesterday. I farmed the crap out of the 60 dgns and got 2000 law and i170. I joined a Bismark group and we wiped 6 times. It was clearly a dps check. One guy said I was only at 650/ idk what that means, the 2 bards were at 685. I felt like my dps was a bit low but even so I spammed dots on both adds even with reflect. I saved my cooldowns for them and it was still not enough. Another guy said the online guide says 600 is enough (no clue what 600 means) and said theoretically we had enough dps. We limit break and still failed. I returned to the game wanting to play dps this time around, at 50 I was a full time healer. Did I make the mistake of gearing summoner? I really don't want to grind Law again, I am kinda burnt out atm.

    Questions:

Who are the best dps classes atm?

Is smn pretty bad or mid tier?

I save my burst 3 aeth + dots + spam ruin III then megaflare ( is about 10-14k dmg with raging strikes in 6-8 seconds ) After my burst I rely on my 4 dots, my shadow thing on the ground and my ruin/ ruin III spam...I feel like I play the class to best of its capabilities. HELP!

    Welcome Back.

SMN used to be mid to low tier DPS wise, in 3.0 they are a beast and if played correctly, can go to 900-1000 dps sustained when they are item level 179.

The numbers people were telling you were your DPS (damage per second) as monitored by a third party program (only PC users can access this tool).

A few questions I have for you, you said you healed previously, I assume as a scholar yes? If so, your stat points are probably allocated into Mind for healing, I would suggest going to your grand company and purchasing the item for 250 GC seals, that resets your stat points that you allocated as you leveled. Then re-allocate them all into Intelligence.

Lastly, I would suggest gearing up (sounds like you already did this) with a priority in your stats going Crit/Det/Spellspeed. 1 point of intelligence equals roughly 6 points of critical (det and spellspeed have been re-tooled so the weights may have changed). Using this info will help you determine if a piece giving you only plus 2 intelligence, but removing 45 critical is worth it or not.

Just keep trying to improve your damage output and practice, practice, practice. You can achieve better numbers.

If you are really ilvl 170 decked and use your whole skillset i would say. not your fault. The numbers are dps. They used a external dps parser.

When that guy gave numbers, he was talking about actual Damage Per Second, so he was saying the bards were doing an average of 685 damage per second, while you were averaging 650 damage per second, and the encounter requires you to be doing at least 600 damage per second. He would be pulling these numbers using a 3rd party program to parse the battle log, since FFXIV doesn't have add-on support yet.

I can't comment on the gameplay of SMN at the moment, but they're definitely good dps. I haven't seen a bad one at lvl 60 yet. Take his parse numbers with a grain of salt; parsers aren't perfect, and summoners have typically been harder to correctly parse, usually showing as much lower than they actually are.

SMN is perfectly fine for the encounter; our first clear was with 3 SMNs still in like ~i150 with Law weapons.

While it is not as important as it used to be due to them reworking Pet Accuracy, and I don't actually know what the accuracy cap is for the 3.0 content... it would be a good idea to make sure you have at least 515 Accuracy on your character as a Summoner. This was the Accuracy Cap that was needed for a Summoner in Coil Turn 13, and I really don't foresee the current content in the game needing much more Accuracy than that. Once Alexander and Alexander Savage come out that may be different, but for now that should be sufficient.

Also, the problem with Parsing data for a Summoner is that so much of the Summoner's damage comes from Damage over Time effects. Because the game lumps all Damage over Time effects from a single source into one lump sum that ticks at the same time in the battle log, there is no way to accurately parse this information, so there is an incredibly high probability that the data that the person in question listed is off by a very large margin. Then there is the pet issue, most of the time the Summoner's pet is on Obey, so it is only using Auto-Attacks unless commanded to use a different attack, which tends to completely throw off the numbers on a Parser as well, especially when the Summoner commands the pet to use it's Enkindle Attack, a single 200-250 Potency Attack (plus DoT on two of the versions of it) that can only be used once every 3 minutes...

Pets and dots parse , but it might not work correctly some times.

I got an issue where parser gave me more DPS with titan than ifit.
I restarted the parser and it was OK.

what rotation are summoners using? I use miasma bio II bio shadowflare, 3 stack aetherial, I slowly burn through that then ruin 3 spam.. idk what else I could be doing, mega flare every 30-50 seconds

I think I am playing correctly... I really dk how there could be something so drastic that I am missing. I've done all content leading up to this point without any issues, maybe I was just with a bad group?
